Abuja, July 7, 2017 (NAN) The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) says it will hold peace walk to sensitise Nigerians on the need for peace and unity of the country.

Mrs Gloria Shoda, the National President of the council, announced this in on Friday in Abuja while inaugurating some committees to mark her one-year in office.

Shoda said that the walk, which would hold on July 15, was part of the activities to commence the week-long event of her one anniversary.

Inaugurating the committee, she charged members of the committee to ensure that the event was a success.

The NCWS president noted that the one-year of her administration had brought the cause of women to the front burner.

She said the week-long event would commence with Juma’at prayers on July 14, thanksgiving service and other anniversary attractions.

She said that part of the event was the empowerment of 1,000 women by the Bank of Industry, Lets Go Girls Launch (a sports programme for girls under 4 to 18) and Launch of Women Discount Card. (NAN)

Karu (Nasarawa State), April 20, 2017 (NAN) The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) has called on parents to promote girl child education in all ramifications for a better society.

Mrs Aishatu Isah-Idoma, the NCWS President in Nasarawa State, made the appeal on Thursday in Karu.

She spoke during a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Karu Local Government Council of the state, Mr Yinallah Iyan.

She urged parents especially women to ensure proper upbringing of their children including education for a better society.

Isah-Idoma said that education is the bedrock of every society, hence the need for parents to make it top priority for their children.

She added that the development of any society was dependent on the quality of education given to children.

The NCWS president explained that the visit was to thank the women in the area for their support during and after their election, urging them to sustain the spirit of togetherness irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

“NCWS is a non-political and irreligious body, but it is out to protect the interest of women and also to support them when they faced any challenge and the only way to achieve success is for women to sustain the spirit of togetherness irrespective of their affiliation.

“We are all known that women are very important in the society as we have contributed a lot to the development of the society and I urge all of us to continue to contribute our quota to the development of our areas, the state and the country at large,” she said.

Isah-Idoma appealed to government at all level to consider women in terms of appointment for them to benefit from dividends of democracy.

She enumerated the major challenges facing the society to include office accommodation and appealed to well meaning individuals to come to the aid of the society.

The NCWS president further urged the women to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities, live in peace and engage in meaningful ventures in the interest of development.

Responding, Iyan commended the society for the visit and promised to support the activities of women in the area.

The council boss restated his administration’s commitment to continue to key in to women friendly programmes and policies so as to better their lives for the overall development of the country. (NAN)
