Minna, March 12, 2020 (NAN) The Niger State Taekwondo Association on Thursday in Minna honoured Baba Sheshi, the Director of Sports in the state’s Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, with an award of excellence.

“This award of excellence is presented to Baba Sheshi, the Director of Sports, for his support in the development of taekwondo in the state and sports in general,” Franca Nwankwo, the association’s vice chairman, said while presenting a plaque to the awardee.

Nwankwo said Sheshi has always given a listening ear to sports associations under the ministry and was always ready to support them to succeed.

“The Director has always given moral and material support to the taekwondo association for him to merit the honour,’’ she said.

Responding, Sheshi said the award was a wake-up call for him to ensure that sports associations succeeded in winning medals for the state during competitions.

He urged the taekwondo association to embark on a road walk for a sensitisation programme to attract youths to the sport.

“There is need to engage the youths in sports such as taekwondo to earn a living.

“It will help to keep them off the streets, thereby reducing social vices,” Sheshi said.

He then lauded the association’s efforts in training men and women to represent the state at the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) holding from March 22 to April 1 in Benin.(NAN)
