Abuja, Aug. 1, 2019 (NAN) The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has called on organised labour to challenge political leaders to ensure that state resources meet the needs of workers and other Nigerians.

Oshiomhole made the call  in Abuja at a reception in honour of the Director General, International Labour Organisation (ILO), Mr Guy Ryder.

Oshiomhole expressed concern over non-chalant attitude of leaders towards improving the lives of Nigerian workers, and said the organised labour must adopt aggressive engagements to change the status quo.

“We have to do things differently about minimum wage,” he said, noting that whereas prices of goods and services had gone up astronomically in the country, workers wages have remained static.

“So if every other costs are changing, and labour cost is constant…, somebody is being squeezed.

“Rising crises, stagnant wages, a very miserable lifestyle, and you have to fight for that.

“And we now see in Nigeria the difference between signing an agreement and the challenge of translating those laws, and even the contradiction of signing laws first before getting consultants to tell us how to implement these laws.

“Just to tell you that from inside, I am much more convinced that unions should not only exist, but should have the capacity and ruthlessly deploy that capacity to ensure that the resources of states are dissipated in favour of working people and working families,” the former NLC president said.

While commending the ILO for its focus on Youth Employment and Social Justice, Oshiomhole said focus should also be on ageing population and under employment of young persons.

He said Nigeria ought to do something about it’s population growth which was at 3 per cent annually, as against 2 percent national economic growth.

“With population at 3 per cent, poverty must be endemic, it is not rocket science, so we so need to have conversations on various aspects of society, particularly at what we do differently to get the youth busy.”

He urged young people to collaborate to fight poverty by pushing those in government to create the environment for them to think and change the narratives.

Earlier, the ILO DG, Mr Guy Ryder, said Nigeria trade union movements have made great impact in defence of basic fundamental rights in line with the provisions of the organisation.

According to him, the organised labour has also played extraordinary role in building the nation’s democracy, saying the consistency was in line with the fundamental values of the ILO.

The NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba, commended the ILO for the privilege given to Nigeria to host the Global Youth Employment Forum.

“It is also important in all jurisdictions that without the issue of standards, certainly workers organizations will have nothing to celebrate.”

Wabba noted that the rights of workers to belong to trade unions and engage in collective bargaining has put workers and employers on the same pedestal.

“The most profound challenge of the world of work lately was insecurity, uncertainties and impact of technology

“Technology has made jobs threatened; decent jobs should be at the centre of all economic policies, because human beings are at the centre of every development.”

Wabba said NLC would continue to seek ILO’s support for capacity building and intervention for Nigeria to be at par with its counterparts, pledging more commitment to the values of social dialogue on minimum wage and other issues affecting Nigerian workers. (NAN)

Abuja, June 6, 2019 (NAN) The All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum of State Chairmen on Thursday in Abuja passed a vote of confidence on Mr Adams Oshiomole, the party’s National Chairman, saying he is the best man to lead the party.

Mr Ben Nwonye, the Secretary of the forum and Chairman, APC Enugu State Chapter, who spoke on behalf of the forum made this known while speaking with newsmen at the party’s national secretariat.

He fielded questions after the state chairmen had a closed door meeting with Oshiomole and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

He added that inspite of recent negative reports on Oshiomole, he remains the man with a strong will to lead the party at the moment.

“We met with the national chairman of our great party and members of the NWC and we touched on relevant issues on the party.

“We discussed in details on the party’s unity and at the end of the meeting, we were fully informed on the party’s issues and unity.

“Based on the information we have and the readiness of the party and the national chairman to lead the country and the party to the next level, we have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Oshiomole and the NWC,” he said.

Nwonye described recent negative reports making the rounds on Oshiomole as spurious allegations meant to malign not just his person, but President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC as a party.

He added that Oshiomole remain a strong man and the party’s national chairman, saying that he has all it takes to lead the APC to the next level.

Nwonye said it was regrettable that those that were against Oshiomole started their campaign against him just as President Buhari was to be inaugurated for a second term in office.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that on May 28, Sen. Lawal Shuaibu, APC Deputy National Chairman, North, called on Oshiomhole to resign for allegedly failing to add any value to the APC since his election.

Shuaibu, in a six-page letter dated May 27 and addressed to Oshiomhole, accused the chairman of incompetence, high handedness and immaturity in his handling of the affairs of the party.

He noted that the APC had lost control of seven states under Oshiomhole.

“I am a critical stakeholder in the APC project and therefore, have a stake for which I reserve the right to write this letter to you,” Shuaibu had said.

Following the party’s challenges in Zamfara and some other states of the federation, resulting from its mode of primaries ahead of the 2019 general elections, Oshiomhole and Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the APC immediate past national chairman had been engaged in blame trade.

This particularly followed the upturning of the party’s electoral victory in Zamfara by the Supreme Court, and the losses it suffered in some states it previously controlled.(NAN)

Lagos, July 26, 2017 (MAN) The President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation has described as fake news speculations that its Director-General, Mr Rotimi Amechi, disparaged the APC National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole.
Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Director, Strategic Communications of the organisation, said this in a statement issued to the New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
“Our attention has been drawn to a news item purporting that the Director-General of President Muhammadu Buhari Campaign Organisation, His Excellency, Rt. Honourable Rotimi Amaechi, disparaged the Chairman of our great party, the APC, His Excellency, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to the effect that he is “bad luck” to the Party.
“This news item is a classic case of the much-touted `fake news’ that has become a tool in the hands of desperate politicians. It is also an unsuccessful attempt to create a division between both great leaders of the Party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state without equivocation that Rt. Honourable Rotimi Amaechi did not at any forum, whether in private or public, utter such words or anything close to those words in reference to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. He holds Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in the highest esteem possible.
“We have since discovered that this `fake news’ was concocted, released and circulated by the sinking main opposition party. Indeed the combination of Rt. Honourable Rotimi Amaechi and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is an obvious nightmare to them.
“From our intelligence sources, we wish to alert the general public that as the campaigns draw closer, many of such fake news would be released and circulated by the opposition that is presently clutching at straws and harvesting chaff to survive.
“For them blackmail, outright lies, falsehood and now fake news have become their campaign strategy.
“For us, we shall continue to alert the general public anytime such fake news is released and urge them to continue to ignore such stories.
“However, on our part, we are set to run an issue-based campaign,” Keyamo said. (NAN)

1. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),
Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, says ministers, who failed to inaugurate
members of boards of parastatals under their supervision, risk expulsion from the party.

Oshiomhole condemned the actions of some ministers who had refused to
inaugurate board members appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari and
now appropriate the powers of the board by awarding contracts without
recourse to due process.

2. A Civil Society Organisation, Elections monitor 2018, has commended
the Independent National Electoral Commission for ensuring a level

Federal Ministry of Health has advised medical practitioners and other
stakeholders in the health sector, to scale up the use of
chlorhexidine vaccine to reduce newborn deaths due to umbilical cord
infections.
Adebiyi emphasised the need for stakeholders’ intervention in making
the drug available in both public and private health facilities across
the country.

4. The Nigerian Hajj Medical Team on Monday in Madinah, Saudi Arabia,
cautioned pilgrims against environmental hazards arising from harsh
weather conditions during their pilgrimage in the holy cities of
Makkah and Madinah.

Head of the Medical Team, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, Dr
Muhammad Abdulkadir said because of the high temperatures and harsh
weather in Madinah, pilgrims were at the risk of getting dehydrated
and therefore needed to drink plenty of water frequently.
Abdulkadir advised the pilgrims to maintain personal hygiene and
observe environmental sanitation as well as eat good food throughout
the duration of the Hajj.

5. The Industrial Training Fund in collaboration with the Nigerian air
Force has trained two hundred personnel in Electrical Works, Auto Cad,
Welding and Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Masonry,
Plumbing and Pipe Fitting.
The Director General of ITF, Mr. Joseph Ari, said the event marked a
water shed in the effort to skill and re-skill members of the Armed

Abuja, July 3, 2018 (NAN) The National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole, has described Alhaji Balarabe Musa, a former Governor of old Kaduna State, as a man that is exemplary in his life and politics.
He stated this while speaking at the launch of a book titled: “Balarabe Musa, the Voice of the Masses’’ on Tuesday in Abuja.
“I personally will say I know not of any honest, sincere and incorruptible man as Alhaji Balarabe Musa, when we are talking of integrity and honesty, you cannot equate any Nigerian with him,’’ Oshiomhole said.
He noted that even as governor, Musa refused to negotiate when he was to be impeached as most present governors would do to serve their office.
He further noted that the ex-governor was not impeached for stealing, corruption or abuse of office, but because he refused to bend and open the state’s treasury for people to help themselves.
The APC national chairman added that Musa was impeached because he refused to pursue policies that in his judgment would be inimical to the welfare and well-being of the people of Kaduna state.
“For that, the forces that wanted things to remain the way they were predetermined to check him out.
“I am aware that there were all manners of forces to make him negotiate, but for him, you don’t negotiate your conviction.
“When you now compare that tradition to where we are today, where people decamp in the morning and before they get their registration card in the evening, because they did wrong calculations, they decamp back and they keep decamping.
“When they contest for an office and don’t win, they will go to another party and keep going like that,’’ Oshiomhole said, adding that this showed lack of commitment, value or political ideology.
He noted that to most politicians in the country, it was all about holding power, even if it meant holding power as an end in itself.
The APC national chairman and former governor of Edo stressed that to Musa, it was not about quantity, but “quality, principles, ideas and rugged commitment’’ to his ideology and belief.
“He is one person I found that even if he has to stand alone for what he believe in and every other person is going the other way because it is not convenient, he would rather stand alone.
“What I take from that is that you should do what you believe in even when you are alone,’’ he said.
Oshiomhole recalled how Musa, as governor gave him the first political appointment, by appointing him into the Board of one of the state owned companies, not bothering about his religion or where he came from.
“Today in Nigeria, several years later when we are supposed to have known better, ethnicity and religion have become the basis for friendship, sometimes, the basis for political choice and national discourse.
“ These are the type of things that Balarabe Musa will not be part of, for him, people should be defined in terms of who they are and who they believe in.
“The second thing Balarabe Musa taught us is that we should try to internalise that if you can’t beat them, keet fighting them because they will be defeated.
“He also taught us that even when they have beaten you, in the long run, your conscience will remain standing,’’ he said.
He, however, advised that there was need for Nigerians to work hard to make the country worth living in. (NAN)

Abuja, June 23, 2018 (NAN) Sen. Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna) has advised Mr Adams Oshiomole, the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to resist blackmail and stranglehold of detractors within the party.
Sani, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, gave this advice in a statement on Saturday.
He also urged the new national executive members of the party not to allow the problems that bedeviled APC in the past three years to persist.
“I believe Comrade Adams can take the party out of the woods and lead it to a new path and a new future.
“However, I advise that Adams must resist the blackmail and the stranglehold of the Lucifers within the party,’’ the lawmaker said.
Sani regretted that the party had in the last three years fallen short of its mission and vision.
“In the last three years, APC’s broom was stained by the faeces of inequities and glued by the mucus of injustices.
“In the last three years, APC became an unruly ruling party presiding over ruins of its sub chapters.
“Chief Oyegun is leaving behind an APC that he fashioned and erected on a heap of fraudulent congresses, Cold War and civil war.
“Chief Oyegun is leaving behind hatchets buried with leaves.
“He is literally leaving behind grenades covered with flowers of which Comrade Adams must detonate.
“In the last three years under the outgoing leadership, APC’s broom was unable to clean the political space and even itself,” he said.
Oshiomole and some officers of the party had emerged unopposed. (NAN)
