Nasarawa Govt takes free medical outreach to Keffi zone

Nasarawa (Nasarawa State), July 23, 2019 (NAN) The Nasarawa State Government has taken its free eye medical outreach to the Western senatorial district to improve healthcare delivery to people of the area.
Mr Ishaku Abari, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Health, said this in Nasarawa on Tuesday in continuation of the state government’s free eye outreach.
Abari said the state had already offered free eye medical outreach in Nasarawa North and South districts respectively in the last two weeks.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state government commenced the free eye medical outreach on July 8, as part of activities to mark Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s 100 days in office.
The exercise began in Akwanga, Nasarawa North senatorial district, followed by Nasarawa South senatorial district, and would now be concluded in Nasarawa West senatorial district.
Abari added that the new administration in the state has given eyes topmost priority due to its importance to the whole body.
“If the eyes are healthy, the whole body will be full of light. On the other hand, if the eyes are unhealthy, the whole body will be full of darkness,” he said.
While calling on residents to avail themselves of the opportunity, the permanent secretary said the initiative was targeted at poor residents across the state.
“The programme is designed specifically to improve on the health of the people of the state, especially those with eye problems.
“The programme is also to take care of people that have eye challenges as we have team of experts (doctors, nurses) and the necessary logistics to prosecute the project has been provided.
“It is when you are healthy that you can actually engage in productive ventures,” he said.
He also disclosed that free consultation services, eye surgeries would be carried out and eye glasses would be distributed free of charge to beneficiaries.
The permanent secretary restated the continued commitment of the state government to deliver good health policies and programmes that would improve the lives of the people.
Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibrin, the Emir of Nasarawa, commended the state government for organising the outreach and called for its sustenance. (NAN)

Nassarawa-Eggon (Nasarawa State), Jan. 25, 2018 (NAN) John and Friends Healthcare Foundation (JFHF), an NGO, says it will offer free medical treatment to over 1,000 residents of Endehu community of Nasarawa State.
Mr John Francis, the founder of the NGO, disclosed this on Thursday at the commencement of a one-day free medical outreach at Endehu village of Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NGO is providing free testing, counselling and treatment on hepatitis B and C, HIV, blood pressure and sugar, among others.
Francis said that one of the aims of the NGO is to offer free medical services as well assist the needy in order to improve on their health and standard of living for the overall development of the country.
“As you can see, the tests and drugs will be administered and given to the community free of charge, medical services free of charge and everything we are doing in the community is free of charge.
“The medical outreach was designed to assist poor Nigerians who do not have the means to access medical care, hence the need for the free medical treatment in order to improve on their standard and health status.
“It is also to educate and sensitise the members of the public on the need to take their health with all seriousness because a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
“The organisation aim also is to bring healthcare services closer to the people especially those at the grassroots,’’ according to him.
He called on the people of Nigerians to always give adequate attention to their health by going for regular medical check up.
The NGO founder restated his organisation’s commitment to continue to initiate good health policies and other programmes that have direct bearing on the health of Nigerians.
Mr Ihejirika Chukwuma, President, NYSC Anti-HIV/Reproductive Community Development Service (CDS) of the area, commended the NGO for sponsoring the programme.
Chukwuma said that the group would continue to sensitise the public on the need to know their health status considering the importance of health to the socio-economic development of the country.
Responding, some of the beneficiaries, Messrs Joseph Kachala, Ende Jagu, Emmanuel Ajegena, respectively, commended the NGO and the NYSC corps members for the gesture and called for its sustenance.
They said that the gesture would go a long way toward improving their health and standard of living of rural dwellers.
NAN also reports that the free medical outreach was sponsored by the foundation in collaboration with Nesla Philip Consulting, where the NYSC medical team are offering the services. (NAN)

Bauchi, Oct. 11, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, has conducted eye screening for more than 300 of its members to commemorate World Sight Day celebration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the screening exercise is in collaboration with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH).
The state Chairman of the council, Malam Ibrahim Malam-Goje, said the exercise was to commemorate the world sight day.
Malam-Goje said that it was also an opportunity for journalists in the state to check their sights in view of the fact that they are exposed to computers, lap tops, tablets, etc, in performing their duties.
“Journalists use computers among other gadgets to discharge their duties, as such their sights are exposed to the adverse rays.
“According to research, out of 10 people that come in contact with computer, four are always diagnose with one eye problem or the other.
“Hence, there is the need for eye screening and treatment,’’ he said.
Malam-Goje commended the ATBU-TH medical team for partnering with NUJ to conduct the exercise, adding that it will help towards diagnosing and improving the sights of beneficiaries.
The chairman said that the screening entailed free medical services including screening, provision of eye glasses and medication.
He said that those diagnosed with major ailments would be advised and referred to hospital for further treatment.
The leader of the medical team, Dr Hafsat Isa, said the commemoration of World Sight Day was to scale up enlightenment about eye health to the public.
