NBS commits to promoting peace, development issues

Lafia, Oct. 28, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Yusuf Musa, the General Manager, Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), has assured that the station would continue to promote peace and developmental issues.
He also assured members of the state House of Assembly of adequate coverage of their activities and other events geared towards promoting unity and progress of the state.
Musa, who is also a member of the Board of Directors, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), gave the assurance on Monday when the state House of Assembly Committee on Information paid an oversight visit to the station in Lafia.
He said that the station was established in order to publicise government and other activities in the interest of national development, hence the need of his determination to promote that.
“I want to commend you for the visit and to assure you of my readiness to ensure that the aim of establishing the station is achieved.
“The station has been digitalised and it has wider coverage within and outside the state.
“I want to assure you of my determination to give the government, members of the House, your activities and other activities across the state adequate coverage in the interest of development,” he said.
The general manager however solicited for the funding to acquire Outside Broadcast (OB) Van and operational vehicles to ensure effective dissemination of information to members of the public.
He also urged the support of the legislature in providing the station with modern broadcast equipment and improved welfare for members of staff of NBS to achieve maximum productivity and enhanced service delivery.
Earlier, Alhaji Mohammed Omadefu, the Chairman of the Committee, said that the visit was not to witch hunt anybody but to assess the budget performance of the station for the 2019 fiscal year.
“This visit is to assess the budget performance of your station and also to know your challenges, if any, so as to proffer solutions.
“We are ready to assist the station overcome its challenges in the interest of the state,” he said. (NAN)

Akwanga (Nasarawa State), Aug.1, 2019 (NAN) A traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, Mr Samson Gamu-Yare, the Chun Mada of Mada, has called on Nigerians to tow the path of peaceful co-exist by working in harmony for development to thrive in the country.

The traditional ruler made the call on Thursday in his palace in Akwanga, while playing host to Alhaji Usman Bawa, the Sarki Gudi, a third class traditional ruler in the state.

He said that if Nigerians worked in unity, it would go a long way in promoting peace in the society.

“We will work together to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among the people of Akwanga, the state and the country at large,” he said.

He explained that the importance of peace to societal development cannot be over-emphasised, hence the need for all and sundry to work toward ensuring peace.

Gamu-Yare commended the Sarki Gudi for the visit and assured him of his support to enable his chiefdom succeed.

“I want to commend you for the visit and I assure you of my support at all the time, to enable you succeed in carrying your chiefdom to greater height and to promote peace among our people,

“The importance of peace to socio-economic development of the country cannot be over-emphasised.

“Peace is priceless and non-negotiable and it is the necessary requirement for the development of every society.

“As such, there is need of all Nigerians to embrace peace,” he said.

Gamu-Yare also urged the Sarki Gudi to carry everybody along while discharging his duties.

He, however, called on his subjects as well as other Nigerians to remain law abiding, while respecting constituted authorities in the interest of peace and development.

Earlier, Bawa said the visit was to appreciate the Chun Mada’s leadership qualities.

Bawa, who was upgraded from District Head of Gudi-Akwanga to third class status, pledged loyalty to Gamu-Yari for the overall development of the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state House of Assembbly approved the creation of four new chiefdoms of third class status on May 24.

The Gudi chiefdom was one of beneficiaries of the upgrade. (NAN)

Ile-Ife (Osun), March 16, 2016 (NAN) The Federal Government on Thursday renewed its commitment to restoring peace and sanity in all parts of the country.

The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. AbdulRaman Dambazau, said this at the Ooni of Ife’s palace after a visit to the Sabo area of Ile-Ife.

This followed a crisis that ensued between Yoruba and Hausa communities on March 8.

He said: “I am part of Ile-Ife. Even late Oba Okunade Sijuwade who was the closest friend of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, confirmed that I schooled in South West.’’

The however said that he was shocked and confused when he learnt of the dispute between Ife and Hausa communities, saying it has not been so from ages past.

“I know Ile-Ife as a land of peace, accommodating strangers, friendly and loving other ethnics, so I wonder how such incident could occur,” Dambazau said.

Dambazau attributed to the crisis to criminals and not the Ife or Hausa communities, adding that the strife had no tribal or religious coloration.

He called for a peaceful coexistence, saying “all we want in all communities is peace, for without peace, we cannot sleep nor slumber, for without peace, there cannot be any development”.

While urging all to join hands and fish out the perpetrators, the minister said the bad eggs, once identified, would not go unpunished to serve as a deterrent to others.

Dambazau commended the efforts of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and host Gov. Rauf Aregbesola, over the matured way they managed the crisis.

He also appealed to other Nigerians to desist from acts likely to lead to violence and loss of lives and properties across the country.

Earlier, the President, Ife Progressive Forum, Mr Olajide Awowoyin, had welcomed the minister while acknowledging his good posture towards the cradle of the Yoruba.

Awowoyin also described Ile-Ife as a land of peace and love, assuring the minister that no more war or crisis would occur in the land.

He however condemned what he described as one-sided arrests, saying that justice needs to be upheld in solving the crisis in the area.

Also, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who was represented by his second-in-command, Oba Idowu Adediwura, the Obalufe of Ife, lauded the minister for coming to share in Ife’s agony and pains inflicted by miscreants.

Ogunwusi described the incident as saddening and regrettable not just for Ife indigenes but the entire Yoruba race.

The Ooni also said that normalcy has returned to the land and that peace would follow.

In the same vein, Aregbesola, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, observed that the Hausa people had been living in Ife since 1824 and that several generations of them were actually born there.

The governor condemned a section of the media for misinterpreting the misunderstanding between two individuals as a fracas between Hausa and Yoruba.

He therefore appealed for peaceful coexistence in the land, promising that with the crisis over, the state government will provide succour to the victims. (NAN)
