Speaker assures of redeeming campaign promises

Umaisha (Nasarawa State), March 22, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has assured members of his constituents that he would fulfil his campaign promises.
Abdullahi (APC-Umaisha/Ugya constituency) gave the assurance on Thursday when he paid a thank you visit to the people of his constituency in Umaisha, Toto Local Government Area of the state.
The speaker said that he was at his constituency to appreciate his people for re-electing him for a second term.
“You have seen what I have done in my first tenure towards improving on our standard of living.
“I will fulfil my second term electioneering campaign promises made to you which include continue initiation of people oriented programmes by God’s grace.
“I have initiated different programmes such as scholarship to students, youths and women empowerment, among others.
“I am here to thank the people of my constituency for supporting and voting APC candidates at all levels during the Presidential and National Assembly elections as well as the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
“I have always said that this is the time we should face the reality because for us to get more government’s presence, we must be part of the government.
“It is only the APC government that will deliver the much-needed dividends of democracy to the electorate and we thank you for voting APC.
“I want to assure you (constituents) of fulfilling my campaign promises in order to better the standard of living of my people and Nigerians at large,’’ he said.
Abdullahi assured the constituents of his continued desire to operate an open door policy and to carry everybody along while discharging his duties.
He called on his constituents and Nigerians to continue to give their maximum support and cooperation to the APC-led government at all levels to enable them succeed.
Abdullahi, who is also the Vice Chairman, North-Central, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, said that every leader needed support from the public to succeed.
The speaker urged Nigerians to live peacefully with one another and tolerate themselves irrespective of their affiliations. (NAN)

Omu-Aran (Kwara) March 21, 2019 (NAN) A group, Kwara South Progressive Forum, on Thursday urged the state’s Governor-elect, Alh. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to keep the campaign promise he made to turn around fortunes of the state for better.

Co-coordinator and Secretary of the forum, Chief Bola Olu and Mr Bisi Omidiji, made this known in a statement they signed on Thursday and released in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

The forum advised the governor-elect to adopt a workable blueprint to drive governance of the state in order to achieve the desired socio-economic development envisioned for the state.

It maintained that it was the responsibility of the governor, as the new helmsman in the state, to address the underdevelopment of the past 16 years.

According to the group, it is only through exemplary leadership, constructive performance and accountability that Abdulrazaq can justify the confidence reposed in him by the people.

“The recent general elections have clearly proved to the political elite that the average Nigerian voter attaches so much value to his ballot, genuine public service and accountability,” the forum said.

It congratulated the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who is the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state; Hon. Bashiru Bolarinwa, the state Chairman of APC; and all other party leaders in the state on the success of the party in the 2019 elections.

“Your hard work, dedication and commitment before, during and after the general elections in the state totally uprooted the feudalistic Saraki hegemony from the state.

“The outgoing government will not go down without a fight-back; the only means of power retention on a long-term basis was progressive policies and relevant project execution by the in-coming government.

“The governor-elect must never allow lethargy to set in from the starting block to the finishing end.

“You must constitute a team that will equitably represent the ethnic blocks in the state and prioritize the urgent needs of the workers, pensioners who had suffered criminal neglect by the out-going PDP government of Fatah Ahmed,” it added.

The forum also enjoined the governor-elect to critically study the agricultural potentials of the state with a view to driving the army of our unemployed youths back to the land for meaningful employment.

It further spoke of the need for thorough investigation of the ownership of Shonga Farm, the Aviation College in Ilorin, and the Kwara Football Academy.

According to the forum, the investigation is necessary because the establishments have gulped so much of the state’s resources without corresponding returns.

“With transparency, accountability, and proper blockage of all financial drain pipes, Kwara State should witness a meaningful turn-around within the next four years,” the forum said. (NAN)
