Lawmaker thanks constituents, pledges quality representation

Lafia, July 22, 2019 (NAN) A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mr Sulaiman Danladi, has promised quality representation and an all inclusive legislation for the benefit of the state.

Danladi (SDP-Keffi East) made the pledge at Lafia while playing host to his supporters from Keffi East Constituency led by his campaign Director-General, Mr Hassan Mamud.

The lawmaker, who thanked the people of the constituency for supporting him, assured them of people oriented programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the constituency.

He promised not to disappoint the people of the constituency while discharging his duty.

“I want to thank you for the visit and to assure you of my readiness to key into good policies and programmes that will have direct bearing on your lives and the lives of others.

“I want to assure the people of my constituency of inclusive, effective, sound and quality representation in order to bring the much needed dividends of democracy to your door steps,” he said.

Danladi also promised youths and women empowerments so as to improve on their lives and for the overall development of the state.

The lawmaker also solicited for prayers and support from all and sundry to enable him succeed.

Earlier, Mahmud said that the visit was to congratulate the lawmaker on his successful inauguration as member of the State House of Assembly.

He assured the lawmaker of their support and cooperation to enable him succeed. (NAN)

Madinah, July 15, 2019 (NAN) Pilgrims from Kano State have commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for facilitating the supply of quality food for their breakfast and supper.
They made the commendation in an interview with newsmen on the sideline of their breakfast in Madinah on Monday.
One of the pilgrims, Alhaji Gbadamasi Sani, said he and his colleagues were satisfied with the quantity of food being served.
According to him, the positive development has given them value for their money and enhanced their comfort in Madinah.
He noted that not only were they served with their required ration there was always extra food for intending pilgrims who need extra food.
He said they were being served with semovita, rice, bread, tea, banana and orange, among others.
“Every intending pilgrim is satisfied with the food we are being served, we have no complaint about the nature of food given to us,” another pilgrim, Malam Ahmed Gunkure, said.
He, however, frowned at the unrestrained attitude of some of his colleagues who, he said, cashed on the development to indulge in over feeding.
Ahmed advised pilgrims to desist from such act in the interest of justice, adding that such behaviour, if not checked, could deny others their ration.
Meanwhile, Madinah has continued to receive pilgrims from Nigeria with Nasarawa State pilgrims being the latest arrivals.
Same goes for other nations such as China, Indonesia and other African countries.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that besides their religious rites, derivable from Hajj, pilgrims from all walks of life, particularly Nigerians, are seen exchanging pleasantries with their colleagues from other nations to foster unity among nations.
About six states have so far transported their intending pilgrims to Madinah for Hajj, which will also take the pilgrims to Makkah two weeks from now. (NAN)

Abuja, Sept. 21, 2018 (NAN) Mr Ife Adebayo, the Special Assistant on Innovation and Entrepreneurship to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, says the Federal Government under the present administration will support any innovation that will guarantee quality services Nigerians.
Adebayo stated this at the “Innovating for Health’’ event organised by Health Innovation Hub, an NGO, in Abuja on Friday.
He explained that the government would not stand in the way but would stand along the way to achieving any innovation that would impact on the lives of Nigerians.
He said that the current administration had launched and supported various innovative projects in different sectors to make businesses and lives easier for people.
The special assistant urged those seeking for innovation to get legislative backing to ensuring that such was legalised by the constitution.

“Anybody seeking for any innovation should collaborate with the National Assembly to have legal backing,’’ he said.
Dr Kunle Kakanfo, a Founder of the hub, had earlier said there was need to try innovation in health sector to make healthcare services accessible and available to people.
Kakanfo explained that such innovation would eliminate the process of timing and unnecessary delay in health facilities.
He said that his NGO which had done a lot on capacity building had started working with other organisations to achieve innovation in health sector.
“We need to widen space for stronger action and opportunities, use of technology is one of it but not the only way to improve the healthcare services, it involves mode of service delivery.
“Customer is a king they say; and it is also in the health sector therefore we must do everything possible to satisfy our clients.
“There is no point of waiting for innovation on new drugs and vaccines from Europe; we can do that ourselves here in Nigeria.
“India has done it; that is why the country is a health tourism destination today,” he said.
Kakanfo assured that his organisation would collaborate with governments and private sectors to open conversation to drive this change. (NAN)

Standard: NAFDAC trains staff on quality management system

Abuja, July 23, 2018 (NAN) The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has embarked on “Quality Management System’’ (QMS) training as part of rebuilding process to uphold standard.
The NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
Adeyeye said that the training focused on the use of international standards for running the agency with the purpose of placing premium on satisfaction of end-users or stakeholders of NAFDAC’s regulatory controls.
According to her, the goal is to safeguard the health of Nigerians.
She explained that NAFDAC desired to be International Standard Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 90001- 2015 certified, to imbibe quality operation culture and be at par with other regulatory authorities worldwide.
The director-general said that a major requirement to achieve the feat was that the agency should institute, implement and maintain an active QMS across all sections of its operations.
“In addition to the above, the agency also identified the need to use standardised and documented procedures to improve all activities and achieve its mandate of safeguarding the health of the nation.
“This would include operating a system that will be highly efficient in administration and active in internal auditing.’’
The NAFDAC boss said that a detailed work-plan had been developed to provide a road map to implement QMS in the agency, and ultimately attain ISO 9001:2015 certification.
According to her, a gap-assessment has been conducted on all NAFDAC directorates between October 2016 and May 2017, to determine lapses and proffer support where needed.
She added that the recommendations from the report on the exercise were being addressed. (NAN)

Medical directors seek quality healthcare for Nigerians

Abuja, April 7, 2018 (NAN) The Guild of Medical Directors (GMDs) on Saturday urged the Federal Government to give priority to health sector and provide quality healthcare services to all Nigerians.
Dr Chito Nwana, the Chairperson of GMD, FCT chapter, made the call in commemoration of the World Health Day in Abuja.
The theme of the day is: “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere, Health for All”.
“We also cannot ignore the mass exodus of our best health providers and specialists particularly doctors and nurses to other parts of the world.
“How can we achieve Universal Health Coverage without enough health care workers to provide services,” Nwana said in a statement.
“We must begin to value the medical profession by providing them with international standard training facilities, proper remuneration for their service and a stable environment in which they can grow in their profession.
“Reducing emigration of doctors and encouraging specialists that trained abroad to return to Nigeria to offer their services will positively contribute to the advancement of the health sector while curbing medical tourism,this ‘brain drain’ must stop,” she said.
Nwana said Nigerians should be more proactive and realise their right to essential quality healthcare, saying they are the ultimate beneficiaries of quality healthcare and also on the receiving end of poor healthcare.
She called on Nigerians to join the advocacy battle to ensure that the leadership invests accordingly in the health sector.
Nwana said the guild was prepared to partner with the community, government by providing incentives and promoting measures to keep hospitals open and healthcare providers available.
She said universal health coverage could become a reality in our country, if leaders are willing to use their powers to make healthcare their number one priority.
“To do so, there must be enough health facilities to meet the needs of the population. Presently, Nigeria lacks adequate public and private health facilities and is unable to meet the need of its citizenry.
“There has to be better partnerships, collaboration and cooperation between the public and private sector to develop a system that will improve access to healthcare.
“It is however unfortunate that this important relationship is lacking in our country,” she said.
Nwana said private health establishments are currently overburdened by multiple taxation charges and levies which had forced some establishments to close or reduce their standard of care in order to remain open.
She said the GMD made up of owners of private health facilities is an advocacy group that seeks to facilitate raising the quality of medical care offered by these establishments to globally accepted standards.
“To achieve this we advocate and promote a level playing field for our operations.
“We believe that our leaders must make health a priority, promote the private health sector by offering incentives such as tax breaks and exemptions to give room for growth, and to ensure that we, as providers, are brought to the table when policies are formulated or implemented.
“This will lead to the advancement of the public and private health facilities and hence the health sector as a whole,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Health Day is commemorated every April 7.
This year’s event coincided with the 70th anniversary of the World Health Organisation. (NAN)

Abuja, April 10, 2017 (NAN) Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has charged scheduled officers to adopt a standard selection process for the NYSC annual honours awards.

Kazaure gave the task on Monday in Abuja at the commencement of a two-day nationwide training for its schedule officers to improve the standard of the selection process.

He said while declaring the 2017 Citation Writers’ Workshop open that the training was imperative as the process has been handled poorly over the years.

Kazaure said the process had progressively diminished in quality over the years thereby lowering the significance and value of the lofty achievements of award winners.

He said this had led to complaints and protests by aggrieved Corps members against the process, saying that the training will help the scheme to properly manage and reduce these complaints.

“Management has observed with great concern that citation writing as important as it is to the honours and merit award programme, is being poorly handled by schedule officers.

“The quality of the process has progressively diminished over the years; the natural but negative outcome of this trend is lowering of the significance and value of the lofty achievements of the award winners.

“Given the above scenario, therefore, it has become imperative to organise training of this nature to equip the citation writers to the standard required for reporting on projects and accomplishments of award recipients which form the bedrock for the final selection process.

“The training will simulate aptitude and sharpen the skills of our schedule officers on citation writing and avail them the opportunity of keying into global trends in the style, format and methods of flawless writing,” Kazaure said.

He said the training would also strengthen interpersonal skills and competencies of schedule officers.

According to him, this training will also educate officers on how to harmonise the system of providing adequate input on Corps members’ projects from the local government level to the final selection of award winners.

Earlier, Mrs Victoria Okakwu, the NYSC Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, said the last training held for schedule officers was in 2011, recalling that only 37 officers were trained that year.

Okakwu said the director-general approved the training of over 85 officers across the 36 states and the FCT, with the Nigeria Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) to cover the gap that existed.

According to her, the training is a direct response to the challenges observed during the 2016 National Selection Committee meeting.

The theme for the workshop is “Enhancing the Capacities of Citation Writers’’. (NAN)
