Enugu, Feb. 12, 2020 (NAN) Rangers International FC of Enugu on Wednesday defeated Jigawa Golden Stars FC of Dutse 1-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) rescheduled Match Day seven in Enugu.
The match was decided in the 62nd minute with only goal of the day coming from Rangers player Dauda Madaki.
The visiting team gave their all in the first 45th minute but were pegged back after the interval.
Speaking after the match, Rangers assistant coach, Mbwas Mangut, said that the match lived up to expectations.
“We expected a tough match against the team from Dutse and that was why we gave it our all,” he said.
He said that Rangers technical crew had to rotate players because they have more tough matches ahead.
“We still have Akwa United and Kano Pillars to play on Sunday and Wednesday next week.
“Thank God we won this match because what matters is the three points and not the scoreline,” Mangut said.
In his reaction, Jigawa Golden Stars FC Coach, Gilbert Ubana, said that his team played well.
“We wanted to pick something from this match but we made a mistake after the interval which led to the goal,” he said.
The coach said that he never lost hope of going home with positive result.
“This team is a work in progress because they are still mastering my tactics because I just took over two weeks ago,” Ubana said.
The visiting team’s Captain, Yusuf Mohammed, said that they accepted the outcome of the match in good faith.
“Although, most of us came from the Nigeria National League (NNL) but that was not why we lost because football is all about win, draw or loss.
“We have lost, so we are going home to keep perfecting our strategies for the matches ahead,” Mohammed said. (NAN)
