Adamawa Govt prescribes vaccination cards for services

Yola, April 23, 2018 (NAN) The Adamawa Government says children vaccination cards might be required to access some government services.
The state Commissioner of Health, Dr Fatima Atiku, made this known on Monday at a press briefing in Yola to mark the Africa Vaccination Week.
“Parents are strongly advised to keep their children vaccination cards safe as this may be required to access some other government interventions in near future,” Atiku said.
She noted that Adamawa and 17 other northern states were far behind in routine immunisation, prompting the declaration of state of emergency on routine immunisation by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency in the affected states.
“As a result, emergency routine immunisation coordination centres were established in all tiers to coordinate activities that strengthen the routine immunisation in the states.
“To achieve this goal, daily immunisation are going on at all levels of healthcare in the state including some private health facilities.
“Therefore, parents and caregivers are encouraged to visit health facilities at any time to get their children/wards vaccinated,” she said.
The commissioner noted that this year’s theme: “Vaccine work, do your part”, requires all stakeholders to ensure that all eligible children and women were vaccinated.
“While government makes efforts to ensure availability of safe and patent vaccines, parents and caregivers have the responsibility of making their children available at our various health facilities across the state for vaccination.
“This is crucial for achieving the target of universal immunisation coverage by the year 2020, thus contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage,” Atiku said. (NAN)
