Anambra will be ready for memorable hosting of Police Games, Rojenny MD says

Awka, Feb. 27, 2020 (NAN) Rommy Ezeonwuka, the proprietor of Rojenny Tourists and Games Village, has assured that Anambra will put up a memorable hosting of the 2020 Nigerian Police Games which begins on Saturday.
Ezeonwuka gave the assurance on Thursday at Oba, near Onitsha when he received Abdulazeez Obansa, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Operations, who was around to inspect the facility.
He said Rojenny Games Village was fully ready to complement the state government’s efforts and ensure that there were no lapses.
“Apart from putting in shape the eight-lane tartan tracks and other facilities for track and field events, which was the original plan, we are also working on other facilities for handball, volleyball, basketball, tennis and swimming.
“This is because we want them to be ready to serve as ready alternatives in the event of last-minute changes.
“This is to ensure that there are no lapses. We are always ready to support the government because they cannot do it alone,’’ Ezeonwuka said.
He said Anambra had the facilities to stage all the events to feature at the Games and there was no need to move any event to neighbouring states.
“The only exception can be for sports like polo, golf and shooting.’’
Ezeonwuka assured that the atmosphere in Anambra for the Games was already “electric’’ and the athletes were already arriving.
He disclosed that only about 300 accommodation spaces had been taken out of about 1,000 spaces he made arrangements for.
Speaking also, Obansa commended the Rojenny management for the level of preparations at the stadium.
He expressed confidence that with the robust complementary role of Rojenny, the Nigerian Police Games in Anambra would be a success.
“I am here to see what is in place at Rojenny in terms of facilities, accommodation, security and general environment and I must say I am impressed.
“Though there are some areas undergoing repairs, but I am sure this place will be ready before the Games commencement,’’ the DCP said.
Obansa however acknowledged that there was always room to improvise where there was need.
“We can always get around it here. But I believe everything be ready before time,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that security checks had begun at the entrance of the stadium because of the presence of Police athletes and officials at Rojenny.
Meanwhile, last-minute efforts were being made to complete the new swimming pool and the courts for basketball, volleyball, basketball and tennis events being constructed at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.(NAN)
