Yobe records peaceful Sallah celebration

Damaturu, Aug. 21, 2018 (NAN) Yobe has recorded another peaceful Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
A correspondent of NAN reported that Muslim faithful conducted their prayers peacefully at various Eid grounds amidst tight security across the state on Tuesday.
The report said the faithful trekked long distances in some places to attend the annual prayers in Damaturu and other major towns.
Security operatives were deployed to strategic positions to keep vigil on individuals and groups tripping to the praying grounds.
A Nigeria Air Force jet was also hovering around the metropolis of the state capital and other places to ensure safety and peaceful celebration in the state.
NAN also reports that a 12-hour restriction of vehicular movements was imposed across the state from 10 p.m. on Monday to 10 a.m. on Tuesday to beef up the security.
Meanwhile, movements have resumed with residents in high festive mood and visiting friends and neighbourhoods as part of the celebration.
Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam had in his Sallah message assured the commitment of his administration to consolidate the improved security in the state.
He also assured residents of his administration’s resolve to improve the welfare of the people. (NAN)

Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), Aug. 21, 2018 (NAN) The Chief Imam of Ijebu-Ode, Alhaji Mufutau Ayanbadejo, has decried the spate of corruption in the country, and urged  President Muhammadu Buhari not to relent in the anti-corruption war.
Ayanbadejo made the call while delivering his sermon at the Ijebu-Ode Eid Praying Ground on Tuesday in commemoration of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
He said it was worrisome that those perceived to have contributed to the menace of corruption were still walking free in spite of concrete evidence against them.

He added that capital punishment for corrupt practice or long jail terms for high profile personalities would serve as deterrent to others.
The cleric urged politicians to be truthful and accountable and not to fail those who entrusted them with their mandate.
Ayanbadejo also stressed the need for the
government to look inwards and initiate programmes and policies that would reduce the level of penury and hunger in the land.
He called on Muslims to live in peace with one another as the Holy Quran preaches. (NAN)

Eid-el-Kabir: Ogun FRSC deploys 1,000 marshals for special patrol

Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), Aug. 16, 2018 (NAN) Clement Oladele, Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ogun, on Thursday said the command has concluded plans to launch one-week intensive patrol programme to reduce accidents during the Sallah festival.

Oladele, who made this known in a statement in Ijebu-Ode on Wednesday, said the exercise was necessary based on the expected increase in movement of people, goods and services during the period.

He said the campaign would begin on Aug. 17 and come to an end on Aug. 26, adding that it was aimed at ensuring order and free traffic flow during the period.

The FRSC boss said a 24-hour surveillance to monitor traffic situation would be conducted around Lagos-Ibadan, Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode, Abeokuta-Sagamu and Abeokuta-Ifo-Sango- Otta-Lagos corridors.

According to Oladele, 1,000 personnel including regular and special marshals will be deployed round the state to maintain free flow of traffic and highway safety during the period.

“Logistics have been put in place and I can say that all our 22 patrol vehicles will be deployed for the effectiveness of the exercise.

“Our marshals will be on the road round the clock to monitor the roads and enforce compliance with highway codes.

“Already, we have special units at major motor parks sensitising motorists on proper road usage and safe luggage limits.

“The special patrol operations will focus on, excessive speed, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, lane indiscipline and use of phone while driving.

“We will also frown at seat belt, overloading, tyre, speed limiting devise violations as well as and passenger manifest violation by commercial vehicles.’’

The FRSC boss said special road side clinics and three life support ambulances would be stationed at major flash points along the road corridors to give instant first aid to accident victims.

According to him, all our para-medics will be on ground. They will provide first aid to accident victims before they are taken to the hospital for required treatments as the case may be.

Oladele appealed to road users to drive cautiously, adding that anyone found flouting the law would be appropriately prosecuted.

“Motorists traveling during the period are advised to be extra careful and pay special attention to construction areas where overtaking is prohibited and maximum speed perked at 50km per hour.

“I can assure road users that broken down vehicles will be towed within the shortest time and there will be almost zero experience of gridlocks during the period.

Eid-el-Fitr: Imam urges Nigerians to be optimistic of stronger Nigeria in future

Ijebu-Ode (Ogun) June 25, 2017 (NAN) The Chief Imam of Ijebu-Ode, Alhaji Abdulrasak Salaudeen, has urged Nigerians, especoally Muslims, to be optimistic of a stronger Nigeria.

Salaudeen made the call in his goodwill message to the Muslim brethren during the Eid-el-Fitr prayer session held on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode where he led the worshippers in two rakat prayers.

He said one of the injunctions of Ramadan was for believers to always have faith in the Almighty Allah.

The cleric urged them to continue with their good virtues in keeping with faith in the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammed on the essence of Ramadan.

Reflecting on the lessons of the Ramadan month, Salaudeen tasked them to continue to refrain from iniquity in order to receive the reward of their steadfastness from Allah.

He challenged government at all levels to improve the welfare of the citizenry and build an egalitarian society where everyone would enjoy the dividends of democracy equally.

Salaudeen urged the Federal Government not to relent in its efforts to rid the nation of terrorism, stem the tide of corruption and resolve the recession crisis facing the economy.

Similarly, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona urged clerics and Muslims to continue to pray for the sustenance of peace and progress of Ijebuland and the entire nation.

He tasked clerics to continue to instill the fear of God in the their congregation through their sermons and leading exemplary lives worthy of emulation.

According to the monarch, political office holders should endeavour to redeem their electoral promises to the electorates to build trust and foster the spirit of unity.

He advised leaders to remain accountable especially with the use of public funds and to also create solutions towards youth unemployment. (NAN)

Ijebu-Ode (Ogun), Sept. 12, 2016 (NAN) The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, has urged political office holders in all tiers of government not to renege on their promises to Nigerians.

He made the plea in his goodwill message to Muslim faithful during the Eid-el-Kabir prayer held on Monday in Ijebu-Ode.

According to the monarch, political office holders should endeavour to redeem their electoral promises to the electorate to build trust and foster unity.

He advised leaders to remain accountable, especially in the use of public funds, and to also create solutions to youth unemployment.

“Education, employment and infrastructural development remain key toward enabling the rapid development of our economy.

“Politicians, who serve uprightly and diligently, should expect that their services would bring them rewards both on earth and afterlife.

“I pray God to continue to be with our leaders and guide them in making the right decisions while discharging their duties,” Adetona said.

The monarch further appealed to the Ogun government to speed up completion of road projects in Ijebu-Ode and promptly pick-up of refuse to minimise the risks of health hazards.

Similarly, the Chief Imam of Ijebu-Ode, Alhaji Abdulrasak Salaudeen, in his message, urged Nigerian leaders to serve with the fear of God and be sensitive to the plight of the people.

Salaudeen also urged the Federal Government not to relent in its efforts to rid the nation of terrorism, stem the tide of corruption and tackle the recession facing the country. (NAN)

Residents applaud tight security in Damaturu during Eid prayers

Damaturu, Sept. 12, 2016 (NAN) Residents of Damaturu, the capital of Yobe have expressed satisfaction with the tight security in the state as Muslims observe the Eid prayers.

They told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that `we felt secured with the presence of the security operatives.

NAN reports that security was beefed up on Monday in Damaturu with operatives deployed in strategic locations, while vehicular movement were also restricted.

NAN observed that men, women and children, who trooped out in large numbers for the prayers were screened before being allowed into the prayer grounds.

Alhaji Musa Buba said: “it is better to trek and be secured than to allow free movement of vehicles and live in fear.’’

Dr Mohammed Fari, Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state, said a special surveillance square was deployed to check movements of persons.

“The corps has deployed 1,538 personnel across the state for the Sallah event,’’ he said. (NAN)
