Gombe, March 23, 2020 (NAN) The Gombe State Government has ordered the closure of all schools to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the state.
Gov. Inuwa Yahaya said this while speaking during a radio and television broadcast on COVID-19 in Gombe on Monday.
He said the closure will take immediate effect from Tuesday March 24.
“In accordance with the directive by the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19, all schools in the state are hereby directed to close effective from tomorrow Tuesday March 24, 2020 until further notice.
“Furthermore, congregations for ceremonies, religious and other social activities are advised to limit numbers so as to not exceed the 50-person maximum as advised by the committee,” he said.
Yahaya said that the epidemic was a reality, and assured of government’s commitment towards fighting the disease.
“I must appeal to the general public to complement government’s effort in the fight against the dreaded disease irrespective of different shades of opinions or positions.
“Experience has shown that Coronavirus is no respecter of colour, creed, religion, size or level of development of any nation,” he said.
The governor also appealed to traditional and religious leaders to sensitise their followers on the dangers of the virus and the need to adhere strictly to medical advice.
Yahaya expressed government’s readiness for the fight virus in the state, adding that government had already released funds for sensitisation campaign and procurement of some equipment. (NAN)
