Abuja, Jan. 30, 2023 (NAN) Mr Adamu Paul, Managing Director of Olive Educational Foundation schools, Abuja, said it was critical for digital technology skills to be included in education at all levels.
Paul told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja: ”Education is a fundamental human right and digitalization gives room for improvement and equal access in education.
“ In a world where everything is online and any business that isn’t online is losing money, more than half of today’s professions demand technical abilities.
“Failure to teach our children digital skills for today and tomorrow will only widen our continent’s skills gap. So, it is critical for the technology skills to be included in education at all levels.”
Paul also urged administrators of both private and government schools to take digital literacy skills as crucial as possible to secure Africa’s future.
He also urged them to work towards the introduction of coding in primary schools for early assimilation.
Paul said: “There is still a substantial skills gap in Africa and to solve it, we must begin at the grassroots level.
“We live in an increasingly digital world, so, it is only logical that we begin teaching digital skills early enough.”
According to Paul, a recent World Economic Forum report stated that 65 per cent of contemporary primary schools’ children would eventually be working in job types that do not exist yet.
He added: ”While the International Finance Corporation (IFC) estimates that by 2030, more than 230million jobs in Africa will require digital skills.
”It is therefore clear that emerging economies face significant up-skilling challenges, which need to be addressed throughout the educational careers of young people.” (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
