Toto LGC recommits to tackling insecurity, unemployment

Toto (Nasarawa State), Oct. 21, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Nuhu Dauda, the Chairman, Toto Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, has said that his administration is committed to tackling insecurity and unemployment to promote peace and development in the area.
Dauda said this on Monday at a townhall meeting with residents and members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gadabuke.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the townhall meeting is: “Familiarisation and Enhancement of Political Movement in Gadabuke, Toto Local Government Area’’.
Dauda said that the council had built security posts across communities in the area in order to promote peace for the overall development of the area and the state.
He added that his administration had given topmost priority to youth empowerment and infrastructural development in order to improve the standard of living of the people of the area.
“The council has completed the construction of one kilometre Toto road to ease transportation system in our local government area.
“With the efforts of the state government and security agents, the communal crises, and cases of kidnapping and other forms of security challenges had dropped drastically in this area.
“I have also ordered for the procurement of 25 brick machines for bricks making in addition to the three machines donated by the state government in order to empower the youths to become self reliant.
“All these gestures are to empower the youths as well as to improve on the standard of living of the people of this area for the overall development of the country,” he said.
Dauda therefore urged the people of the area and Nigerians at large to support government policies and programmes in order to enjoy dividends of democracy.
He urged the people of the area to live in peace, respect constituted authorities and be law abiding for development to thrive.
The council boss added that no society could achieve meaningful progress and development without peace, hence the need of his call for his people to embrace peace at all the time.
NAN also reports that the event had in attendance the council’s Deputy Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Musa; Secretary, Malam Nuhu Mohammed; councillors; Special Advisers; APC leaders stakeholders; youths and women leaders, among others. (NAN)

Lafia, Nov. 20, 2018 (NAN) The former Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Musa Mohammed, has called on security agencies to increase surveillance around Nasarawa-Toto axis of Nasarawa State to prevent further attacks and acts of criminality.
Speaking to newsmen in Lafia on Tuesday, he said that the recent abduction of health workers and other criminal activities in the area was affecting socio-economic activities.
Mohammed, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Nasarawa-Toto Federal Constituency in the 2019 general election, said the people of the area have been leaving in fear and needed the assistance of security agencies to restore normalcy.
He explained that the axis is among one of the most economically viable areas in the state that has more people in the urban and rural centres.
The ex-speaker however urged the security agencies and residents of the state to collaborate to ensure safety.
“Our people are constantly leaving in fear and needed the support of security agencies and other stakeholders to bring an end to the activities of criminal elements in the area.
“There should be more surveillance around the area and if possible collaboration between vigilante groups and security agencies, we are in need of serious security presence.
“The rate of kidnapping and other attacks by unknown gunmen in the area is becoming alarming which is very alien to our people because our people are peace loving citizens that go about their normal business activities across the state.”
The PDP candidate promised to present the challenge before relevant authorities as he called on the people of the area to report any suspicious person or movement to security agencies.
Besides, the former speaker enjoined the people of the area to embrace peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that unknown gunmen abducted three officials of the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency along Nasarawa-Toto road on Nov. 1.
The area is also witnessing incessant kidnapping and other criminal activities. (NAN)

Toto (Nasarawa State), June 8, 2018 (NAN) Mr Dauda Nuhu, the Chairman, Toto Local Government Council, Nasarawa State, has urged the Egbura and Bassa communities to live peacefully as brothers and sisters by avoiding attacks.
Nuhu made the call on Friday while inaugurating the newly elected Deputy Chairman, Mr Kabiru Musa, and 12 newly elected councillors of the council at Toto, Toto local government headquarters.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) conducted the Local Government election on May 26.
He enjoined the warring communities to sheath their sword, tolerate and accommodate each other for peace and development to reign in the area.
He regretted incessant loss of lives and properties resulting from skirmishes between the two ethnic groups.
The chairman said that peace is priceless and non-negotiable during his administration.
According to him, there is no substitute for peace and the community can only experience rapid development when people learn how to tolerate with one another and be their brother’s keeper.
He advised the people against doing anything that would sabotage government efforts in maintaining peace and order.
Nuhu promised not to disappoint the people of the area while assuring the electorate of his commitment to execute projects and policies that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the area.
He advised the newly inaugurated councillors to be transparent and accountable in discharging their duties at all the times in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the area.
Nuhu solicited for the support of the people to enable his administration team succeed delivering dividends of democracy.
The council boss commended Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for his prompt response in deploying security to the area for the maintenance of peace.
Mr Yakubu Dangana,the Chief Magistrate of Toto, while administering oath of allegiance on the deputy chairman and the councillors charged them to abide by the oath of office taken by shunning all negative acts while discharging their duties.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the deputy chairman promised to discharge their duties without fear or favour.
NAN recalls that on April 24, there was a communal clash between the Egbura and Bassa ethnic groups of Ugya in Toto local government area which claimed several lives and property.
NAN also recalls that many lives and properties were destroyed in another communal clash between Egbura and Bassa tribes on May 23. (NAN)

Council earmarks N21m to construct bridges, culverts in Toto

Toto (Nasarawa State), March 16, 2017 (NAN) The Toto Local Government Council of Nasarawa State has said that N21 million would be used to construct two bridges and five culverts in the area this year.

Alhaji Mohammed Musa, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of the council, disclosed this on Thursday while inspecting some projects in the area.

Musa listed the projects to include Sardauna and Toto Ahere bridges, construction of culverts at the council road, Abaji road and Yelwa road, among others.

He commended Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for releasing funds for the construction of rural culverts and bridges in various communities in the state.

“This inspection tour is to ensure that the construction of bridges and culverts in this area is done according to specification in the interest of development.

“We are all aware that the project was the initiative of Gov. Al-Makura to connect the areas to different communities to reduce the hardship faced by the people.

“This construction will also boost the economic activities of the area for the overall development of the state.

“The construction of rural culverts and bridges will go a long way in fighting poverty, crime, unemployment, youth restiveness and improve the revenue base of the area,” he said.

Musa assured the people of the area of the council’s readiness to continue to initiate projects that had direct bearing on the lives of the people.

He called on the people to continue to support President Muhammadu Buhari and Al-Makura’s administration to enable them to succeed.

He advised the people to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the overall development of the country.

He added that no society could achieve meaningful progress in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion, hence the need for the people to embrace peace and be their brother’s keeper.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the construction of the two bridges has reached an advance stage of completion while the five culverts had been completed. (NAN)
