Enugu, March 17, 2020 (NAN) Inmates of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Enugu Custodial Centre, have displayed various quality and affordable handicrafts and products at the ongoing 31st Enugu International Trade Fair.

The displayed products include clothing of various designs both traditional and office wears as well as leather products and crafts, which covers designer shoes and bags for various occasions and purposes.

Others are wood works and wood carvings as well as beautiful welding and metal works.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, Mr Monday Emeka, Public Relations Officer of NCoS, Enugu State Command, said the NCoS stand showcased the best handicrafts and products in the country.

Emeka, who led the inmates’ creative team, noted that prices of their products were very cheap and affordable compared to other similar products in the country.

“It is good that Nigerians and foreign shoppers can see, feel and touch the products of our inmates.

“This shows the level of transformation that is taking place at the correctional service custodian centres in the state, under the command.

“We encourage the members of the public especially shoppers at the fair to come to NCoS stand and pick these affordable items.

“Patronising the inmates will further empower them to be self-reliant and show acceptance which the NCoS encourage rather than hatred or stigmatization,’’ he said.

He noted that members of the public could place orders or make direct purchase of the products, even after the fair, at the correctional service custodial centre gate in Enugu.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Chamber, Mr Nduka Awuregu, lauded the top quality products made by the inmates.

“I must encourage your striving spirit of industry to ensure that you get a space to showcase these wonder products at the fair.

“I sincerely believe that, as a quality and relative cheap product, you will make mega-sales here and launch these products to the international market,’’ Awuregu said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fair, holding at Enugu Trade Fair Complex, Golf Estate, organised by the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, started on March 13 and will end on March 23.

The theme of fair is: “Advancing the Growth of SMEs through Corporate Governance for Rapid Economic Development.’’ (NAN)
