Immunisation: Nasarawa Govt partners traditional institution on mobilisation

Karu (Nasarawa state), Oct. 29, 2018 (NAN) The Nasarawa state Government has urged traditional rulers in the state to mobilise parents to avail their children to all immunisation response exercise towards eradicating polio and other deadly diseases.
Mr Vincent Olotu, the Team Leader and member of the state’s Social Mobilisation Committee on Polio Immunisation, made this known on Monday when the committee paid a courtesy call on the Etsu Karu, Mr Luka Baba, in Karu.
Olotu said that the committee were in the royal father’s palace to seek his assistance to massively mobilise his subjects to embrace the forthcoming polio immunisation to eradicate polio and other diseases in the state.
He said that the committee would continue to educate the people on the danger of polio to wipe out the disease in the country.
The team leader commended the role played by the traditional ruler during previous exercises and called for its sustenance.
“We need to make sure communities in the state key into the response efforts of government; that is why we are here to seek your assistance on the need for you to mobilise your subjects to embrace polio vaccination,” he said.
He added that polio immunisation is not harmful, hence the need for parents to cooperate with vaccinators to eradicate the disease.
The leader of the team called for collective effort among Nigerians to eradicate polio and other deadly diseases to improve on the people’s health.
Responding, Baba thanked them for the visit and assured of his continued commitment to mobilise parents to embrace polio immunisation in the interest of the health of their children.
The first class monarch therefore urged his subjects and Nigerians to embrace peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliation, in the interest of development.

Umaisha (Nasarawa State), April 3, 2017 (NAN) A first class traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, has called on stakeholders in the country to salvage the nation’s culture and tradition from extinction.

Abdullahi, who is the Ohimegye Opanda in Umaisha Development Area of the state, made the appeal on Monday when he led other stakeholders of the area to visit ancient traditional sites in Tatapwa village of the council.

The royal father said that culture, tradition and tourism were tools for fostering unity, peace and development, hence the need for people to preserve them from extinction for the overall development of the country.

“Culture and tradition are one and it is important that we preserve them for our heritage to be known and told.

“Gradually, we are losing the values of these cultures and tradition because they have been misconstrued in so many ways,” he said.

The monarch also called on parents and Nigerians at large to take education of their children with seriousness, adding that no nation could achieve speedy development without sound education.

“Education is the bedrock of every society, hence the need for parents to make it top priority for their children.

“The development of any society is dependent on the quality of education given to children and this leads to success in life and a route to escape from poverty,’’ he added.

Abdullahi enjoined Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authority and continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the monarch and his entourage visited the Bees forest, Opanda stream, termite house, refugee camp, ancient gate and ancient big tree, among others, all in Umaisha development area.

NAN also learnt that the Bees forest serve as spiritual den for soldiers used to chase away enemies while the ancient big tree is used for medicinal purposes apart from its nutritional value. (NAN)

Osogbo, March 15, 2017 (NAN) The National President of Traditional Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, Mr Sakariayau Oyedeji, has commended the Osun Government for constituting the State Traditional Medical Practitioners Board.

Oyedeji, in a statement made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday, said the step taken by the state government would go a long way in enhancing and promoting indigenous healing in the state.

He said the initiative would also foster healthy living among the residents as well as enhancing government health policies towards quality healthcare delivery.

While assuring the state government of the association’s robust collaboration and partnership, Oyedeji also pledged the group’s support to boost internally generated revenue for the government.

“We recognise the huge investment made by the state to revitalise health sector with the sole aim of ensuring healthy living through the provision and promotion of quality healthcare facilities given freely to all and sundry in the state.

“We are equally aware that the moribund state of the health sector in the state prior to this administration had been resuscitated through timely and prompt government intervention.

“But the central point of this is the constitution of Board of Traditional Medical Practitioners in the state which we view as right step to uplift indigenous healing of our people across the nooks and crannies of the state.

“This step, to us, would in no measure contribute significantly to quality healthcare delivery and as well help the Board to support the state government efforts in improving its revenue,” the statement read in part. (NAN)
