Council inducts 44 veterinary doctors in Zaria

Zaria (Kaduna State), March 3, 2020 (NAN) The Veterinary Council of Nigeria on Tuesday administered oath and inducted 44 veterinary surgeons for the 2018/2019 academic session at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Speaking at the induction ceremony at the University, the Registrar of the Council, Dr Josiah Kantiyok, urged the graduands to be ethical and obey the rules of veterinary medical practice.
Kantiyok represented by Dr Fadipe Oladotun, Principal Assistant Registrar of the Council, advised the graduands to avoid cutting corners as they advanced in their professional calling.
“Learn to stand by the rules of veterinary medicine in whatever it is and you will succeed.
“You have the tools at your disposal; you are professionals and can do so many things which some people were unable to do.
“I want to encourage you and let you know that you have the tools to succeed in your generation,” he said
He added that the veterinary surgeons had the expertise and knowledge to enlighten Nigerians on what corona virus (COVID-19) is against some myths and misrepresentations on the disease.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of ABU, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Zubair Abubakar, said of the 44 graduands, 14 were female veterinary doctors.
The Vice chancellor, who congratulated the inductees, noted that the event had a cardinal value for them before their national service where they would represents the university and practice veterinary medicine on their own rights.
He urged the graduands to be good ambassadors of the institution, stressing that there was a latent and heavy responsibility on them to guard the character and ethical values of the University.
Speaking on behalf of the graduands Dr Aliyu Lawan thanked the school management and their lecturers for exercising high patience and tolerance while training them.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to some graduands for excellent performance.
Some of those awarded were Dr Mamman Yusuf, who received Prof. Lazarus Tekdek’s award as Best Overall Graduating Student.
Dr Maryam Ahmed received Dr Abdullah Tauheed’s award for Best Graduating Pharmacology Student while Dr Bashirat Idris and Mubarak Adebisi received Dr Samuel Hua’s award for the best clinical conference presenters.(NAN)
