Polls: Speaker predicts APC victory in Nasarawa

Umaisha (Nasarawa State), March 9, 2019 (NAN) Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has predicted victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Alhaji Abdullahi Sule, in Saturday’s election.
He made his prediction shortly after casting his vote at Galadima B polling unit in Umaisha, Toto Local Government Area of the state.
Abdullahi (APC-Umaisha) is seeking re-election.
He told newsmen that he was satisfied with the general conduct of the elections.
“I am happy with the peaceful conduct of the election. The electorate also conducted themselves peacefully during the elections.
“I am going to win and Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the state APC governorship candidate is also going to win,” he said.
The state number three citizen called on the electorate to continue to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the election period.
He commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Abdullahi also urged Nigerians to be law abiding and respect constituted authorities in the interest of peace.
“I further call on the electorate to live in peace and tolerate one another considering the importance of peace to societal development,’’ he said. (NAN)

Victory celebration: Stakeholders urge modesty

Abuja, Feb. 26, 2019 (NAN) Some stakeholders have called on political party leaders to caution their supporters against reckless celebration of election victory.
The stakeholders, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday, also urged the party leaders to ensure modest celebration to avoid loss of lives after the final declaration of the winner of 2019 presidential election.
They recalled that several people lost their lives through reckless behaviour while celebrating election victory.
Mr Daniel Chukwu, said: “It is unfortunate to see young people engaging themselves in reckless driving or taking alcohol that could make them go out of their senses in the name of celebration.
“I think election victory should be celebrated in a matured manner in such a way that will not lead to loss of lives or injury.’’
On her part, Ms Hajara Salisu, expressed concerned on the inability of the party leaders to caution their supporters against unruly acts during victory celebration.
“My brother was a victim of this kind of celebration, may his soul rest in peace. There is a need for leaders to take serious action against this reckless behaviour during election victory celebration,’’ she said.
Salisu, however, called on security agencies to be on alert to ensure that Nigerians do not get injured or loss their lives as result of celebration of election victory.
NAN reports that the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Feb. 24, declared open the National Collation Centre for the purpose of collating the presidential election results from the 36 states and FCT.
So far 18 states, including Abia, Anambra, Ekiti, Enugu, Ebonyi, Kogi, Kwara, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Yobe, Oyo, Kaduna and Adamawa as well as FCT, have presented their results. (NAN)

Delta APC governorship candidate hopeful of party victory

Abraka (Delta), Feb. 23, 2019 (NAN) The governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta, Chief Great Ogboru, has expressed optimism that the APC would win the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

Ogboru told newsmen on Saturday at Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta after voting that he was hopeful that the process would be peaceful in other parts of the country.

He noted that some people still attempted to steal ballot boxes during the election and expressed the hope that the malpractice would soon stop.

“At the end of the day, we want to see that somebody is elected as President, Senator and member of House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, the member representing Ethiope East constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chief Evance Iwvurie, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for demonstrating its independence in the conduct of the election in the area.

He, however, stressed that INEC must be independent “if we must have free and fair elections” in the country.

According to him, in spite of the challenges and threats to INEC, the commission was able to demonstrate its independence in the discharge of its electoral process.

He, however, called on all stakeholders to assist in building the electoral process of the country by supporting INEC to be independent in its conduct of elections.

Iwvurie commended the people of Ethiope East Local Government Area for coming out en masse to perform their civic duties. (NAN)

Abuja, June 23, 2018 (NAN) Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State says the ongoing national convention of the All Progressives Party (APC) is a sign that the party will win the 2019 general elections.
Ajimobi stated this on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Eagle Square venue of the convention in Abuja.
He also expressed optimism that with the emergence of former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, as the party’s chairman, next year’s election would be a victory for the party.
NAN reports that Oshiomhole had emerged as a consensus chairmanship aspirant of the APC after other contenders stepped down.
On his expectation about the convention, Ajiomobi said: “That Oshiomhole is coming as the party’s chairman is a sign that APC will win 2019 election.”
On his part, a chieftain of the party and ex-governor of Bayelsa, Chief Timipre Sylva, said: “We are expecting a very great and successful convention.”
Another party chieftain from Abia, Mr Emeka Nwogu, said his expectation was high and it would be met.
“We are going to have a very beautiful convention; orderly, peaceful and a free and fair election,” he said.
He said though some party officers would vie for election unopposed, he said there would be election in some positions that were being contested.
Nwogu, who was a former minister of Labour and Employment, assured that the convention would make the party to come out stronger and formidable.
“This is a convention before election and we are going to be successful with this convention,” he said.
He advised the winners and the losers in the election to accept the outcome in good faith for the unity of the party.
“We are going to have election in 2019 and the party is going to do better than we did in 2015,” he said. (NAN)
