Council chairman warns workers against misconduct

Agidi (Nasarawa State), June 27, 2019 (NAN) Mr Amos Tsaku, Overseer of Agidi Development Area of Nasarawa State, has warned workers against indiscipline and misconduct on their jobs.
Tsaku gave the warning on Thursday at Agidi while addressing departmental directors and staff members of the council.
He said that the warning became necessary for the council workers so that they could wake up to their responsibilities.
He also advised the workers to shun absenteeism and other sharp practices capable of affecting their productivity.
“The council will not and will never tolerate any act of absenteeism, lateness to duties and other sharp practices in the interest of development,’’ he said.
He added that the council would deal decisively with any staff found engaging in sharp practices to serve as deterrent to others.
“The aim of this meeting is to discuss with you on how to move this area to greater height.
“I want to call on all of you to be productive, dedicated to duty, show more commitment to duties and hard work for the overall development of our area and the state at large.
“You are to shun absenteeism and to shun all acts that are detrimental to the progress and development of the area,’’ he said.
Tsaku also enjoined the workers to support the new administration of Gov. Abdullahi Sule to enable him succeed in the task ahead of him.
The council boss restated his commitment to initiate good policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the people.
Responding, Mr Jacob Chakpe, the Acting Director of Personnel Management (DPM) of the council, expressed their readiness to discharge their responsibilities to the best of their abilities. (NAN)

Abuja, Jan. 31, 2019 (NAN) Dr Biodun Ogungbo, a Neurological Surgeon with a private hospital in Abuja, has warned Nigerians to avoid unsafe plastic surgery to prevent risking their health.
Ogungbo gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
“Recently, there has been a rash of complications following plastic surgery in Abuja.
“Many patients going to have liposuction or indeed fat transfers to have a bigger butt have ended up with massive infections and even a stroke in one case,” he said.
Ogungbo said cheap surgery was not synonymous with good or safe surgery.
He said the cheap, unsafe operations further erode the confidence in local practice.
“It is very difficult to lose a bad reputation, even if it is unjustified. The bad news travel far and wide and it forces more Nigerians to consider medical tourism.
“Anyway, the disappointment dissipated very fast, as we got to grips with clients who appreciate the worth of providing local solutions right here in the heart of the nation.
“Clients who are prepared to pay a fair price for solutions here in Nigeria. Many know full well that the cost of surgery in Nigeria is a fraction of what it costs going abroad,” Ogungbo said.
He said one of the reasons why surgeries were expensive was the deployment of human and material resources to ensure the success of the operation.
“We need to be able to cover all bases and not cut corners, if we want to achieve a good outcome.
“This is an increasingly recurring decimal where clients want the best but will not pay for it,’’ Ogungbo said.
He however said there was need to continue to provide a safe environment for the patient, saying that Nigerians should ensure they go to reputable surgeon who knows what is required. (NAN)

Abuja, Oct. 25, 2017 (NAN) The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned high institutions in the country against charging mobilisation fees for prospective corps members.
Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC Director of Press, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.
Adeyemi was reacting to reports that students from some corps producing institutions were being charged NYSC mobilisation fees.
She said that the NYSC has not mandated any institution to charge mobilisation fees on its behalf or using its name.
She said that students graduating from institutions were not in anyway required to pay fees before, during or after mobilisation for the one-year national service.
Adeyemi therefore advised corps producing institutions not to charge any fee before mobilising students.
“If institutions are charging fees for mobilisation in the pretext that it is compulsory for youth service, then it is wrong and we will counter this because students are not mandated to pay any fees to be mobilised for national service.
“NYSC has not asked any corps producing institution to charge any fees in its name or on its behalf for mobilisation for service.
“If any institution is doing so it is doing it sorely on its own.
“We have heard reports that some institutions are charging mobilisation fees; we will ensure we investigate this and urge the institutions involved if any not to do so.
“NYSC has not asked any institution to take anything from any student. I do not know what fees they are charging and what they are calling it but whatever they name it is not in any way related to or tied to the scheme.
“The problem is that we cannot tell or direct these institutions not to charge mobilisation fees in the schools; we can only ask them, urge them not to do so and not to tie it to the NYSC,” Adeyemi said.
She said that the NYSC Director, Corps Mobilisation, was reaching out to institutions, who may be involved in this, and urge them not to do so either in the name of NYSC or on its behalf.
NAN reports that the corps has received several reports from students who claim that they are being charged fees for NYSC mobilisation from their institutions. (NAN)

Keffi (Nasarawa State), April 25, 2017 (NAN) Alhaji Ismaila Nuhu, the Chairman, Interim Management Committee, Keffi Local Government Cuncil, Nasarawa State, has warned residents against indiscriminate sale of land in the area.

Nuhu gave the warning on Tuesday when he visited the staff quarters of the local government council in Keffi.

He warned that those who sole government land would face the wrath of the law.

The chairman decried the reported indiscriminate sale of some portions of land belonging to the council and advised those involved to desist from the act in their own interest.

He said that the visit was aimed at assessing the facilities at the staff quarters with a view to addressing the problems.

Nuhu also called on the people to change their attitude towards government properties in the area and jealously safeguard them.

“I want to call on the people of this area and other Nigerians to jealously take full ownership of government projects and facilities in their areas by safeguarding them.

“I also advise those involved in the sale of government land in this area to desist or they will face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

He noted that safeguarding government projects was not only in the interest of government but also in the interest of the people.

Nuhu further advised the residents to be law-abiding, respect constituted authorities and engage in meaningful ventures.

He called on the people of the state to continue to support and pray for President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura to enable them succeed in delivering dividends of democracy.

The council boss expressed his administration’s resolve to better the standard of living of the people. (NAN)

Abuja, April 7, 2017 (NAN) Dr Offiong Etim, a surgeon at Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja, has warned that untreated gallbladder stones could be life threatening.

Etim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that many patients were joking with what he described as a deadly medical challenge.

He therefore advised patients with gallbladder stones to seek early medical attention.

Etim described gallstones as hard deposits in the gallbladder which could be as small as a grain of sand or as big as a pear.

He also explained gallstones as solid particles that form from bile cholesterol and billibrum in the gallbladder.

According to him, the cause of gallstones is not obvious, but attributed high cholesterol in the bile as one of the factors that predispose an individual to the disease.

The surgeon blamed being overweight, pregnancy, consumption of high fat diets, eating low-fibre diet and being diabetic as factors that pose the risk of developing gallstones.

He also faulted incomplete emptying of the gallbladder as another causative factor to the formation of gallstones.

He added that being a female and over 40 years, loosing of weight quickly, family history and intake of contraceptives or hormone therapy drugs were factors that contributes to the development of gallstones.

Etim, however, recommended low fat diets in patients with gallbladder stones, saying that it is key in reducing complications associated with the disease.

He therefore urged patients with the disease and having pains or fever to seek urgent medical help as well suggested surgical removal of the bladder of patients with complications. (NAN)

Abuja, March 15, 2017 (NAN) Dr Safiya Ojo, General Medical Practitioner, Wuse General Hospital, Abuja, has warned Nigerians against excessive intake of cold drinks to avoid cold related ailments.

Ojo gave the warning on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

However, the expert advised that drinking cold water in moderation would not have adverse effect on their health.

“Drinking very cold water could be harmful to the body because there is a belief that the bacteria dwelling the in cold environment will trigger children to have catarrh, cough and respiratory tract infection.

“Children and adults that experience skin allergies and asthmatic patients should avoid excessive cold water because they experience attacks,’’ she said.

Ojo said during hot weather, people tend to lose extra fluids and beverages in the temperature range would have a cooling effect on the body.

She added that drinking cool beverages could help to cool one from the inside.

“The best indicator on whether your body is getting enough water is urine colour. If your urine is dark yellow, chances are you’re not getting enough water.

“If you pass clear to very light coloured yellow urine, your fluid intake is adequate.

“But remember that urine colour in the morning will always be a little darker,’’ she said.

Ojo said to function properly, all the cells and organs of the body need water, adding that water also lubricate the joints, protect the spinal cord and other sensitive tissues.

Other advantages, she listed, are that water regulate body temperature and assist the passage of food through the intestines.

She said although some of the water required by the body was obtained through foods with high water content from soups, tomatoes and oranges.

She explained that the majority water was gained through drinking water and other beverages.

“Drinking water, be it from the tap or a bottle, is the best source of fluid for the body.

“Beverages such as milk and juices are also decent sources of fluid, but beverages containing alcohol and caffeine, such as soft drinks, coffee and beer, are not ideal because they often contain calories,’’ Ojo said. (NAN)

Katsina Govt warns health personnel against maltreating patients NAN-HG-3 Courtesy By Zubairu Idris Katsina, Feb. 2, 2017 (NAN) The Katsina State Government has warned health workers against maltreatment of patients, especially expectant mothers in labour rooms, in public hospitals in the state.

Hajiya Mariyatu Bala Usman, the state Commissioner for Health, gave the warning during a one-day public lecture organised by an NGO, Awareness for Good Leadership and Development.

The lecture with the topic: “My role in Making Women and Children more Productive’’, said government has provided enabling environment for the health personnel to provide effective service delivery to patients.

“Health personnel should not show some bad or inhuman attitudes to patients in our health facilities.

“Report any kinds of such bad attitudes of health personnel for prompt action,’’ she said.

The commissioner also urged women to continue to attend anti-natal and post-natal care that were being rendered free of charge in public hospitals.

She stressed the importance of immunisation against the six child killer diseases.

The Executive Chairman, State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Muawiya Aliyu, also advised women to ensure that they sleep inside mosquito treated insecticide nets to prevent themselves from malaria.

He also urged them to give their children balanced diet to prevent them from malnutrition.

Earlier, the Coordinator of the NGO, Malam Abdullahi Aliyu, said that the NGO was established over 14 years ago to focus on healthcare of women and children.

He advised the state government to enact a law that would compel intending couples to conduct HIV/AIDS test before marriage.

Aliyu said no fewer than 7,000 women had contracted HIV/AIDS mostly through their marriage partners.

Jalingo, Jan. 6,2017 (NAN ) The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Friday warned traders in Taraba against storing beverages on bare floor.

The State Coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Suleiman Folorunsho, gave the warning during a mop up of imported foreign juices in shops and warehouses in Jalingo.

According to him, storing beverages on the floor is an illegal act which undermines the integrity of the products.

He said the poor storage habit was partly responsible for the unusual and offensive smell that consumers perceived in some beverages.

Folorunsho advised the traders to henceforth store the beverages on pallets or risked being fined by the agency.

However, at the mop up exercise in a shop at Barde Way, the coordinator approved the sale of some cartons of can Amstel Malt which were earlier suspended by the agency.

He said both the agency’s headquarters and the Nigerian Bottling Company had confirmed that the product was genuine, allaying the fear of a purported “label variation” on it.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that three supermarkets, out of the more than 30 shops and warehouses inspected by the agency, were fined for selling foreign fruit juice.

The agency also confiscated expired and unregistered beverages such as Castle Milk Stout, Cape Discovery, Jacobs Pineapple and Climax Herbal Energy Drink.

Others included expired Spaghetti, Macaroni and Crusader soap. (NAN)
