Woman prays court to grant her custody of 2-yr son

Kaduna, Nov. 12, 2019 (NAN) A 28-year-old divorcee, Hassana Lawal, on Tuesday asked a Shari’a Court l sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, to stop her former husband, Bashir Rabiu, from harassing her.
The plaintiff is also prayed the court to grant her custody of her 1-year-old son, currently staying with his paternal grandparents.
Lawal, who resides at Babban Daura village, Kaduna, alleged that her former husband had continued to harass her since their divorce and urged the court to restrain him from the act.
“After our divorce, he requested I give him his child, whom I was nursing; I returned the boy to his father after weaning him.
“Few days later, I went to see my child at his grandparent’s house in Katsina; he was very sick and l took him along with me to take care of him,” she said.
The plaintiff told the court that since then, the defendant, who had kept pestering her to return the child, even at a time threatened her with police.
She therefore prayed the court to grant her full custody of the child “even if the father refuses to discharge his fatherly responsibilities”.
But the defendant, who resides at Unguwan Shanu area, denied harassing Lawal, saying she had taken away his son without his knowledge.
He prayed the court to give him full custody of his son as he would want him to grow up among his other children.
The Judge, Malam Muhammad Adamu-Shehu, adjourned ruling until Nov. 20. (NAN)

Kaduna, July 22, 2019 (NAN) A 30-year-old woman, Hadiza Abubakar, on Monday prayed a Sharia Court ll sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, to dissolve her 13-year-old marriage, with one Abubakar Isah.
The complainant, who resides at Kerawa road, Tudunwada area of Kaduna, told the court that she was no longer interested in the marriage and was ready to pay back N10,000 dowry to the defendant.
“I am ready to return the dowry he gave me to redeem myself from the marriage,’’ she said.
On his part, the defendant who was represented by his counsel, Abubakar Ashat, told the court that the defendant still loved his wife and wants them to settle for the sake of their four children.
He noted that all means tried by the defendant to settle with his wife proved abortive, adding that they are ready to accept the dowry and give her what she wants.
The presiding judge, Malam Murtala Nasir, after listening to both parties dissolved the union based on “Khul’i” (Redemption). (NAN)

APC Chieftain recommends Aisha Buhari for “African Woman of the year” award

Dutse, April 4, 2019 (NAN) A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa, Alhaji Ishaq Hadejia, has recommended the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, to be the African Woman of the Year.

Hadejia made the recommendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.

He explained that apart from the late Malam Aminu Kano, of the Peoples Redemption Party, (PRP) and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba of the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU), nobody had fought for the emancipation of women like Mrs Buhari.

“Initially, women in the Northern region of Nigeria were prevented from voting during elections, it was Malam Aminu Kano and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba, who fought for women to vote during elections.”

Aisha has remained resolute to the belief that the responsibility of women goes beyond just the house to the community.

“It will interest you to know that majority of women in the North turned out en masse and voted for APC,  to compliment Aisha Buhari.

“It must be noted that wives of former Presidents were addressed as `First Lady, but Aisha is addressed as Wife of the President.”

Hadejia said that the wife of the President has also been involved in critical problems that affect women in the society, like HIV/AIDS, issues of maternal and childcare, orphanage homes, tuberculosis, Women in Agriculture, economy, as well as politics.

Hadejia, however, called on the Jigawa Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru,  to invite Aisha Buhari to Jigawa, to enable her meet with the women in the state, who turned out en-masse to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari and APC in the just concluded elections. (NAN)

Kwali (FCT), Feb. 23, 2019 (NAN) An average aged woman voter (name withheld) at Bonugo Primary School Polling Unit 004 in Kwali Area Council of Federal Capital Territory has fainted while on queue to cast her vote in Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the woman was rushed to a hospital in Kwali for medical attention.
Some of the electorate who are familiar with her said the woman has been sick for quite some time.
Mr Samuel Adamu told NAN that the woman had not been feeling well, saying that her faintness may be in connection with her ailment.
Meanwhile, a large number of voters were seen on queue in various polling units visited as at 2.15 p.m.
NAN also observed that many of the voters defied the scorching sun to exercise their civic duty.
Most of the electorate were seen sitting under trees while others came with umbrella as they waited patiently for their turn to be accredited for voting their choice candidates. (NAN)

Abuja, Jan. 29, 2018 (NAN) A Childless woman, Victoria Isaac, who went through a defective surgery at Orozo, Abuja, has died.
The late Victoria’s husband, Mr Isaac Aondovihi confirmed the death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview on Monday.
NAN recalls that the surgery was allegedly conducted by Dr Mpson Warigon, the Chief Medical Director of Niquad Clinic, located on Kajah Road, Orozo.
Aondovihi said that the wife died of the complication from a wrong surgery in the morning of Jan. 28 at the Maitama General Hospital, Abuja.
He explained that his wife had been on admission at the Maitama General Hospital since a wrong surgery was carried out on her in August 2017 till she died.
NAN recalls that Aondovihi had then stated that the CMD of Niquad Clinic had diagnosed that his wife had `Left Mucinous Ovarian Cyst’ which prevented the wife from getting pregnant.
He said that the doctor told him that there was need for such to be removed through surgery and asked him to pay N45,000 for the operation.
According to him, days after the surgery was performed on Aug. 7, 2017, his wife could not defecate because he later found out that part of her intestine was cut and tied with thread by the doctor.
“She could no longer defecate while on admission in the hospital and after we returned home and I was surprised at the development; if not the issue of conception that took us to the clinic, my wife was in sound health.
“The doctor did not give us any consent form to fill or tell us the implication of the surgery he intended to do,” the husband then narrated.
He said that he had taken the corpse of his wife with the support of the management of Maitama General Hospital to her village at Sauka, Nasarawa State.
Aondovihi however noted that he had not decided whether to still file a case against the clinic that perpetuated the wrong surgery.
He said that though, he was told that the medical director who conducted the defective surgery had died in November last year.
“I have confirmed the death of the doctor in question from some of the staff of the clinic and neighbours.
“I am still mourning my wife and I am yet to discuss with my lawyer to know the next line of action,” he said.
NAN also gathered that the alleged doctor that committed the wrong surgery was said to be on admission for hypertension as at October 2017.
Mr Ajibola Jimoh, the legal counsel to Aondovihi, has confirmed the report, adding that he is yet to get the brief of his client to institute a case against the clinic. (NAN)

Dutse, Jan. 18, 2017 (NAN) A 44-year-old woman, Hanne Sulaiman, has given birth to sextuplets in Dutse, Jigawa, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

NAN reports that the delivery of the sextuplets came barely 18 years after the woman gave birth to a set of twins.

The delivery occurred at Dantaye village in Dutse Local Government Area of the state.

The development came as a surprise among the inhabitants of Dantaye settlement, who viewed the delivery as extraordinary.

NAN reports that hundreds of people trooped to the General Hospital Dutse to see the woman.

A 60-year-old Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA), who took delivery of the first two babies some minutes after 12 a.m. on Jan. 15, told NAN on Wednesday that she had never came across such incident throughout her experience.

“When she delivered, one was alive and one was dead, but after some minutes the other died too,’’ she however said.

Ms Aziba Rebecca, a health worker at the Basic Health Clinic Sakwaya, who took the delivery of the second two babies on Jan. 16, also told NAN that the woman delivered at about 5 p.m.

Rebecca, a trained Community Birth Attendant (CBA), further said that the woman was later referred to General Hospital Dutse, for proper medical attention.

“She was brought to this facility between 3 p.m and 4 p.m., after she gave birth to two babies at home.

“She also delivered two babies here, all males, one alive one dead, but before we referred her to Dutse, the other died also,’’ she said.

Hajiya Hajara Bello, a Midwife in-charge of Maternity Ward in Dutse General Hospital, confirmed to NAN that Mrs Sulaiman was received on referral from Sakwaya Basic Health Clinic.

“She was checked and discharged from the general hospital. But she was brought back the following day where she delivered the sixth baby at about 8.30 a.m.

“We will check her Packed Cell Volume (PCV), and if there is no problem, we discharge her to go home and rest,” Bello said.

Malam Halliru Sulaiman, the husband of the woman, who confirmed the development, told NAN that his wife gave birth to six babies, but they all died.

“But we have left everything to Allah, the Giver and Taker,” said Sulaiman.

Mrs Sulaiman, who looked healthy and strong, told NAN correspondent who visited her in Dutse General Hospital Dutse that she has been attending antenatal when the pregnancy was four months old.

“But I am feeling okay now; no pain anywhere on my body. I have left everything to Almighty Allah as I already have five children alive,” she said. (NAN)
