Kwara beat Bauchi to win Ramat Cup‎ international tournament

Kano, Feb. 22, 2020 (NAN)‎ The Kwara team on Friday beat their Bauchi state counterparts 1-0 at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano to win the 37th edition of the Ramat Under-16 boys football tournament.

In the final match of the competition organised by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), the Kwara team scored the only goal of the game in the second half.

‎The third-place match was won by the Rivers team which also defeated their Kogi counterparts 1-0.

Meanwhile, in the final of the 200 metres race organised on the sidelines of the annual tournament, Josiah Joel from Kaduna state won in a time of 22.40 seconds.

The 4 x100m relay race was won by Kano State in a time of 46.40 secs, while Kaduna state came in second at 46.52 secs and Ekiti third in 46.90 secs.

The 100m race was won by Abubakar Alhassan of Kano State in 11.00 secs.‎

Speaking during the tournament’s closing ceremony, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State said the state would continue to support YSFON in its efforts.

He said the state was particularly impressed with the efforts to immortalise the late Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Murtala Ramat Mohammed, who was assassinated on Feb. 13, 1976 in Lagos.

Represented by his deputy, Nasiru Gawuna, Ganduje said anything done to immortalise the late former Nigerian leader and hero would be welcomed.

Gawuna, who is also the National President of YSFON, later commended Gov. Ganduje and YSFON for their efforts at discovering and nurturing local talents for Kano and Nigeria as a whole.

“Let me reiterate the state government’s commitment to supporting activities that will make youths self-reliant.’’

‎Gawuna then thanked the government and people of the state for their continued support for YSFON programmes over the years.

‎He also commended the teams which participated in the competition for their discipline throughout the duration of the tournament.(NAN)

37th Ramat Cup: Teams battle for semi-final tickets, as Gawuna praises participating players

Abuja, Feb. 19, 2020 (NAN) The battle for the semi-final tickets at the ongoing 37th Ramat International Cup competition in Kano will heighten as Rivers take on their Ogun counterparts in an encounter on Wednesday.

Rivers topped Group A in the opening round with 10 points, while Ekiti with 11 points led Group B.

The Kogi team will also be in the race for quarter-final tickets, just as Bauchi State will confront Kaduna State.

Kwara and Oyo State will slug it out for the last ticket of the day.

Speaking on the competition, the President of Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), Nasiru Gawuna, said players at the competition had shown great examples for the country.

Gawuna, who is also the Deputy Governor of Kano State, said the players had with the attitude displayed so far showed that the greatness of the country lies with the youths.

“I must commend the players and officials for the level of discipline exhibited so far and I believe YSFON and others are taking note of them,” he said.(NAN)

Ozoro hosts South-South zonal playoff of Nigeria Youth Cup

Warri (Delta), June 6, 2017 (NAN) The South-South Zone of Youth Sports Federation of  Nigeria (YSFON) has fixed Saturday till Thursday for a football tournament which will serve as a playoff for the Nigeria Youth Cup.
A press statement by the zone’s Publicity Secretary, Alloysius Okerieke, on Tuesday in Warri showed that the tournament would be held at the Delta Polytechnic Stadium in Ozoro.
The statement also said teams from Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, Rivers, Delta and Ogun would participate in the event, with 11 teams already registered for the youth championship.
“All is now set for Delta to host another great football tournament, which is the South-South zonal playoff of the Nigeria Youth Cup.
“All participating teams, consisting of 20 players each and who are strictly undere-18, are expected to arrive at the venue on Friday,’’ it said.
The statement added that winners of the zonal competition and a team of 20 selected players will qualify to represent the zone in the finals.

‎Usman’s brace helps Kano to Ramat Cup win

Kano, Feb. 18, 2017 (NAN)‎ Kano State’s under-16 boys football team on Saturday in Kano won the 2017 edition of the Ramat Cup competition organised by the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON).

They beat their Kogi counterparts 2-0 in the final match played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, to win the 35th edition of the annual championship.‎

Auwal Usman scored the match’s first goal in the 18th minute from a penalty kick, before doubling the lead in the second half.

The two goals took his competition tally to 11 goals to ensure he won the Highest Goal Scorer award, in addition to the Most Valuable Player award.

In his address during the closing ceremony, Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State commended YSFON for its consistency in organising the annual tournament. ‎

Ganduje, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Usman Alhaji, commended all the teams which took part for their maturity and discipline.

“I wish to restate the Kano state government’s commitment to developing grassroots sports in the state,’’ the governor said. ‎  ‎

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both finalists in the tournament will represent Nigeria at an upcoming international youth football championship‎ in Europe.‎

The tournament was initiated in honour of a late Head of State, Gen. Murtala Muhammed, and it has over the years produced talents who went on to represent Nigeria.(NAN)
