Unemployed charged with terrorising VGC residents

Lagos, Nov. 26, 2019 (NAN) The police in Ikeja on Tuesday arraigned a 26-year-old unemployed man, Moshood Elemoro, who allegedly belonged to a secret society and conspired with other members to terrorise inhabitants of the Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos State.

Elemoro, suspected to belong to a secret cult called “Eiye” confraternity, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge.

The defendant, who lives at Bogije, Ajah, Lagos State, is facing counts of conspiracy, membership of unlawful society and breach of the peace.

According to the Prosecutor, ASP Peter Nwangwu, the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 30 at 2.30p.m. at Bogije.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant and others still at large unlawfully assembled and threatened VGC residents’ lives and disturbed public peace.

“They conducted themselves in an unruly manner by unnecessarily harrasing the inhabitants of Victoria Garden City.

‘’The police received an emergency call that some group of boys suspected to be cultists gathered to disturb the community.

“A team of police men was sent to the area; on sighting their vehicles, they took to their heels but the defendant was caught.”

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 42, 57 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Aje-Afunwa adjourned the case until Dec. 17 for mention. (NAN)
