Abuja, Feb. 17 (NAN) The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) says it will support the Federal Government in promoting green industries in the country.

Dr Chuma Ezedinma, UNIDO’s Regional Officer in the Federal Capital Territory, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, that the support would also enhance production of goods and services.

“We work with governments to support industrial institutions that in turn, provide assistance to enterprises and entrepreneurs in all aspects relating to the greening of industry.

“Our organisation must be adequately developed and supported to achieve an industrialised world where the environment is not compromised.

“For us at UNIDO, we will continue to work with NGOs and the media to see that we industrialise responsibly.

“I want to reaffirm the organisation`s commitment to work closely with the Federal Ministry of Environment to implement its mandate,’’ the UNIDO official said.

He said that UNIDO would continue to make available its capacity to support inclusive and sustainable development as well as promote green industries for Nigeria.

Ezedinma said that Greening of Industry was a method to attain sustainable economic growth and promote sustainable economies which included policymaking, improved industrial production processes and resource-efficient productivity.

“UNIDO’s primary objective is to promote and accelerate industrial development in developing countries and countries with economies in transition, and the promotion of international industrial cooperation.

“ The organisation is also involved in improving the quality of life of the world`s poor, by drawing on its combined global resources and expertise.

“Our Green Industry Initiative creates awareness and knowledge,’’ he said. (NAN)
