Woman, 39, charged with stealing neighbour’s 2 months old baby

Lagos, April 23, 2018 (NAN) A 39-year-old trader, Fausat Hammed, who allegedly stole her neighbour’s two months old baby, was on Monday brought before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Hammed is standing trial for stealing a child to which she pleaded not guilty.

But Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, the Police Prosecutor, insisted that the accused committed the offence on April 16 at No. 49, Giwa St., Ijora-Badia on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

He said the accused, who was pretending to be rocking the baby to sleep, quietly sneaked out with the baby in an attempt to steal her.

The offence violates Section 275 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence attracts 14 years imprisonment according to the provisions of the law.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Adegite, admitted the accused to a bail of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until May 23. (NAN)
