2 docked for allegedly robbing eatery at gun-point

Ikeja, April 26, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of two men; Michael Obum ,23, and Akaolisa Okeke,20, at Kirikiri Prison, for allegedly robbing an eatery.
Obum is an applicant and a resident of Lekki Phase 2 while Okeke is a caterer who lives in Okokomaiko area of Lagos State.
The duo are being tried for conspiracy, stealing, robbery and assault.
The magistrate, Mrs A.K. Dosunmu, refused the plea of the accused.
Dosunmu ordered that they should be kept behind bars pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She adjourned the case until May 12 for mention.
Earlier, Police Prosecutor Dada Wasiu had told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 4 on Victoria Island, Lagos.
Wasiu alleged that the accused and others still at large, conspired to rob Cold Stone Creamery Eat and Go Ltd., of its N500,000 cash and other valuables worth N110,000.
“The accused, who armed themselves with a gun, knives and hammers, robbed the complainant of two Nokia mobile phones valued at N20,000, two Infinix phones worth N90,000 and a N500, 000-cash; all totaling N610,000.
“The accused wore the company’s uniforms to gain access into the office of Mrs Olajumoke Afolabi, the manager of the eatery.
“They pointed a gun at her and commanded her to surrender the day’s sales to them or face death.
“After they had collected the money and the mobile phones from her, they tied her mouth with a cloth, as well as her hands and legs to the chair and left.
“After she had removed the clothes tied across her mouth, she started shouting, “help, and thief”.
“Fortunately, some good Samaritans ran after the accused vehicle; blocked it, and arrested the accused currently on trial while others escaped in the vehicle.
“The stolen items were recovered from the accused, “the prosecutor said.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 175, 287, 297 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 297 prescribes 21 years’ in prison for robbery while Section 175 attracts three years for assault. (NAN)
