2 mechanics face trial for alleged theft

Ikeja, May 30, 2019 (NAN) Two mechanics, Emmanuel Joseph and Ahmed Atanda, on Thursday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for alleged theft of a generator and television set worth N117,000.

Joseph, 22, resides at No. 5, Somoye Drive, opposite Ajayi Ibe St., Agege, and Atanda, 25, lives at No. 28, Akinleye St., Agege, Lagos, are facing charges of conspiracy and stealing.

The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, said that the defendants committed the offences on May 21 at No 77, Orile-Agege.

Samuel said the defendants broke into the shop of the complainant, Mrs Christiana Okoro, and stole the items.

“They stole a plasma television valued N65,000 and a generator valued N52,000, all totaled N117,000.

“The defendants were caught by a vigilance group in the area, who handed them over to the police,”the prosecutor said.

According to Samuel, the offences contravene Sections 411 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The magistrate, Mrs I.A. Abina, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties each in like sum.

Abina  ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until June 26 for mention. (NAN)
