2 men face N2m land fraud charge in Lagos

Lagos, March 9, 2020 (NAN) Two men, Kazeem Ekundayo, Waliu Majiyagbe, on Monday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly obtaining N2 million under pretext of selling land.

Ekundayo, 43 and Majiyagb, 42, whose residential addresses were not given, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them by the police.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendants committed the offences sometime in August, 2016 at Agboro Kayetoro town, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

He said that they fraudulently obtained the sum of N2 million from the complainant, Mr Samuel Mabeweje, under the guise of selling eight plots of land to him but failed to do so.

Osuji said that the defendants converted the said amount to their own use.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr A. O. Alogba, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Alogba ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until April 2 for mention. (NAN)
