3 men appear in court for alleged stealing

Benin, Aug. 2, 2018 (NAN) Three men, Abdullahi Yahaya, Husseni Ibrahim and Musa Abimiku, on Thursday, appeared before an Oredo Magistrates’ Court, Benin for allegedly stealing two sewing machines worth N66,000.
They were also alleged to have stolen one electric iron, valued N5,000, one scissors, which cost N500 and 10 pieces of women wrappers worth N50,000.
The accused are facing charges of conspiracy and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, Patrick Agbonifo, said that the offences were committed on May 10 at Okundia Street, Benin City.
Agbonifo said the stolen items belonged to one Chukwu Oko.
He told the court that the offences were punishable under Sections 576, 414, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48 Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State now applicable in Edo State.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The magistrate, Mrs I.A Osayande, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N140,000 each and a surety in like sum.
The magistrate said that the sureties must be resident within the court jurisdiction.
She adjourned the case until Aug. 24 for hearing. (NAN)
