3 men remanded in prison over armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms

Makurdi, May 22, 2017 (NAN) A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded three men in prison custody for alleged criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearm and acts of terrorism.

The Magistrate, Mrs Fatima Akintomide, ordered that the accused be remanded at Federal Prisons Makurdi as requested by the prosecutor.

The plea of the accused was taken for want of jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until June 30 for further mention.

The Prosecutor, Omaye Ujata, had told the court that accused persons were arrested in their hideout at Adamgbe, Tse-Ishar village along Benue/Taraba border.

“They were arrested with one locally made pistol, one revolver pistol, one dane gun, one cutlass, one knife, three live ammunition of AK 47 riffle, three 9mm live ammunition and one expended empty shell,’’ Ujata said.

According to her, the suspects have confessed to series of robberies along Zaki Biem-Wukari and Ibi roads.

Ujata said that the offences contravened Section 6 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act cap 11 Laws of the Federation 2004 and Section 2 of Terrorism Act 2013. (NAN)
