Activist warns politicians against negative utterances

Abuja, May, 31, 2019 (NAN) Mr Timi Frank, a political activist, has advised politicians, and particularly Mr Itse Sagay, Chairman Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), not to heat up the polity with their utterances.

Frank, who is a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), gave the advice in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

The statement was in reaction to Sagay`s recent comments on the Supreme Court judgment on APC Zamfara and Rivers states governorship election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that while the Supreme Court excluded the APC from fielding candidates during the general elections in Rivers, it upturned its electoral victory in Zamfara on grounds of technicality.

The court had ruled that all votes cast for the APC in Zamfara during the election were wasted because it failed to conduct its primaries according to party regulations in the state.

The court consequently gave victory to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was the party with the highest votes after the APC at the election.

Sagay, on Thursday, however, urged the APC’s legal team to apply to the Supreme Court for a review of the judgment, a development Frank said was capable of heating up the polity.

He, therefore, warned that if Sagay was not urgently called to order, his statement could overheat the polity because the Supreme Court is the highest court of the land.

“At his age and level of experience as a Professor, Sagay should learn to stand by the truth instead of twisting the law for selfish ends.

“Sagay cannot claim to be more learned or more patriotic than the Justices of the Supreme Court, therefore, asking the apex court to attempt to reverse itself is to course chaos.

“The Supreme Court has ruled fairly and justly concerning Zamfara and Rivers states,” he said.

According to Frank, the Supreme Court judgment on the two states, made Nigerians proud and hopeful that there is still hope for the nation’s democracy.

He added that with the judgment, the Supreme Court had again, demonstrated that the Judiciary was truly the last hope of the common man.

He maintained that Sagay’s position on the court judgment was, however, irrelevant, especially since he is an APC chieftain.

“Fortunately, Nigerians know his antics and no longer take him seriously, so, if he does not like the judgments, let him appeal to God.

“With people like Sagay advising the government, things can only get worse, “ Frank said. (NAN)
