Ibadan, Aug. 2, 2018 (NAN) The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has called on Nigerians of voting age , particularly in the South-West region, to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCS) to be able to participate in the 2019 general elections.

Prof. Dawud Noibi, Executive Secretary of MUSWEN, made the call in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan.

MUSWEN also appealed to all Muslim communities and organisations to mobilise all adult Muslims to collect their PVCs, saying that this was an obligation that they owed the nation

Noibi said that the widow of opportunity for voters to collect their PVCs was limited, based on Aug. 17 deadline announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said that Nigerians, irrespective of religious, cultural and social backgrounds, had equal stake in the Nigerian project.

“We all have a duty in determining the direction that the nation takes as we work for a better future in attainment of unity, peace and progress of the nation.

“As a result of this, all Muslims of voting age must see it as a duty to collect their PVCs which guarantee them freedom of choice during the elections.

“In the light of the current political dynamics in the country, the exercise of this freedom is a privilege which must not be taken lightly by any adult Nigerian,’’ Noibi said.

He called on those yet to collect their PVCs to see it as a religious and civic obligation and make genuine efforts to do so during the remaining days.

Noibi also called on Muslims to conduct to be peaceful, before, during and after elections and resist the temptation to partake in any form of electoral malfeasance and be guided by pure Islamic values at all times.

“All Muslim candidates must ensure that they distinguish themselves as men and women of unblemished character and shun all acts that have hindered the nation progress and be ready to serve as good ambassadors of Islam. (NAN)
