Akeredolu solicits stakeholders collaboration for improved public secondary education in Ondo

Akure, Nov.5, 2019 (NAN) Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has solicited support of stakeholders in the education sector to improve the standard of public secondary education in the state.

Akeredolu made the appeal on Tuesday in Akure at the opening of the 2019 Mandatory Continuous Professional Training (MCPT) organised by All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), South West chapter, for principals and teachers.

Akeredolu, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale, said that the present administration would not shy away from its responsibilities.

“Our administration will continue to support programmes that promote and expand the horizon of our teachers and principals.

“I make bold to say that in a bid to encourage our teachers towards effective service delivery, our administration has ensured their training and retraining and regular payment of their salaries and allowances.

“We have also released vehicle and housing loans to our deserving teachers,” he said.
According to the governor, it is the desire of our administration to increase the enrolment of school children and make our schools child-friendly.
Akeredolu further assured that the intervention of the state government would be extended to public secondary schools in due course.
Earlier, Mr Abiodun Omotoso, Chairman, ANCOPSS, South West, said the annual event was rotated across the six geo-political zones of the county.
He explained that the professional training served as an avenue to exchange views and ideas, as well as chart a new course for improved teaching and learning.
The chairman said that conference had also adopted best practices and initiated programmes to upgrade the quality of principals.
Omotoso said the theme of the training, “Effect of Social Media on Students’ Academic Performance” was apt and timely considering the social implications of addiction of students to the use of social media without much restrictions.
Also, Mr Johnbull Mebawondu, President, ANCOPSS, Ondo State, expressed hope that the papers presented at the conference would add value and flavor to the education sector.
“It will also, ultimately make the education sector of the state, not only a knowledge bank, but also a haven for scholarship, intellectualism, concrete learning and development of education.
“From the foregoing, one common goal is obvious, that is an improved academic performance of learners, while our target is the secondary schools in South West and by extension, Nigeria.
“The varying indices we want to review and manipulate to derive our advantage include the social media, the reading culture and the digitalisation policy,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Akeredolu was conferred with an Award of Excellence for his contributions to the standard of education in the state. (NAN)
