Albania imposes curfew in cities to halt coronavirus epidemic

Curfew
Tirana, March 19, 2020 (dpa/NAN) Albanian authorities on Thursday imposed a blanket curfew to combat the spread of the new coronavirus, limiting outside movement to six hours a day, the state news agency ATA reported.

People are allowed to move on foot only between 6 -10 a.m and 4-6 p.m., which should allow employees time enough to commute to work and go shopping.

Motor traffic had been already limited on Monday.

There is no vehicular transport allowed between midnight and 8 a.m, except for cabs and private cars seating five at the most and then only for commuting between work and home, ATA said.

Essential cargo is also permitted on the roads and streets during the curfew.

The aim is to limit the spread of the virus.

So far 64 people have been confirmed as infected, including two who have succumbed to COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. (dpa/NAN)
