Applicant in court over alleged theft of clothes worth N5, 500

Abuja, March 29, 2019 (NAN) The Police on Friday arraigned 23-year-old applicant, Jeremiah Igulu, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, over alleged theft of clothes worth N5, 500.

Igulu, of no fixed address, was docked on charges bordering on criminal trespass and theft, offences he denied committing.

The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, had told the court that one Tony John reported the matter at Karmo Police Station on March 20.

Ukagha said that the defendant criminally trespassed into the complainant’s house without his consent.

The prosecutor alleged that Igulu stole the complainant’s three pairs of clothes worth N5, 500 and one Itel cell phone valued at N5, 000 and escaped to an unknown destination.

She said that the defendant was arrested during police investigation, but could not give satisfactory account of the missing items.

According to Ijeoma, the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The jdge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000, with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 5 for hearing. (NAN)
