Army, PMAN collaborate on fight against insecurity, crimes

Abuja, March 18, 2020 (NAN) President, Performing Musician Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Hajiya Amina Dangaji, has called for collaboration with the Nigerian Army in the fight against insecurity and other social vices in the country.

Dangaji made the call when she led a delegation of PMAN executive on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Wednesday Abuja.

She vowed to use music to fight anti-social behaviours among youths, insurgency and other forms of criminality as well as promote the unity of the country.

The PMAN President said that Nigeria had in recent times suffered from various forms of insecurity and criminality, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, corruption and drug abuse.

She said that the challenges had left the society with no peace, vandalism, underdevelopment, increased poverty and disunity.

Dangaji called for creation of a society where peace, development and progress would thrive.

“PMAN want to align with your fight against insurgency and commensurate with you on your men who lost their lives in the course of protecting the country.

“We want to use music to create more awareness in the public by supporting and assisting the military in the fight against insurgency.

“With your support, we are proposing creating jingles, talk shows, rallies, peace concert and any other avenue within our disposal to achieve this goal,’’ she said.

Responding, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, acknowledged the importance of PMAN to Nigeria’s socio-economic development since the formation of the body in 1984.

Buratai explained that music, over the years, had impacted positively in binding people together, promoting culture, social life, unity, education and entertainment, among others.

He said that the organisation has a very important role to play in the unity of the country, adding that division, disunity and anti-social behaviours could only bring retrogression and insecurity.

While re-echoing the sacrifice of the Army in the fight against insurgency and counter insurgency, Buratai called on PMAN to chart the way forward.

He called on them to continue to fight drug abuse and anti-social behaviour, while promoting a peaceful society through music.

Buratai also called on the musicians to support the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to succeed.

“You have been doing that, but I request you to increase the tempo to checkmate the activities of criminals and separatist elements,’’ he said. (NAN)
