Assiciation commends FG on agricultural transformation

Daura (Katsina State) April 10, 2019 (NAN) The National President of Agricultural Non-Governmental Organisations (ANGONET), Alhaji Rabe Daura, has commended Presdent Muhammadu Buhari for giving priority attention to agriculture since in the last four years.

Daura made the commendation on Wednesday while addressing Maize producers and stakeholders on agriculture in Daura, Katsina State.

According to him, the effort has so far succeeded in making Nigeria the leading country in Africa in terms of rice production, beating Egypt which was the leading continent in the past.

He noted that Buhari administration had significantly encouraged the utilisation of local content in agriculture and improved patronage of Nigerian made goods in the international market.

“Our farmers now exports rice and other agricultural produce to generate additional income,’’ he said.

The official, who is also the Daura zonal Chairman of Maize Growers Association, noted that no fewer than 4,000 maize farmers benefited from the Federal Government anchor borrower programme in the area in 2018.

“We provided farmers with seedlings, fertilizers, water pumping machines and other agricultural inputs.

“We will continue to support our farmers to achieve self-sustainability and boost food security.

“We have so far achieved a reasonable percentage of loan repayment in cash and bags of the commodity,’’ the chairman said.

He said additional 5,000 maize farmers were expected to benefit from the loan this year, adding that the association would soon commence registration and data capture of the targeted beneficiaries.

On security, Daura said Federal Government commitment and determination to free the nation from sporadic security breaches has been largely successful.

“Zamfara will soon be liberated as efforts are being intensified toward achieving that,” he noted.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 8,500 rice farmers have so far benefited from Anchor Borrowers Programme in Daura Local Government Area since inception. (NAN)
