Kaduna, March 13, 2020 (NAN) Association of Positive Youth living with HIV in Nigeria (APYIN) has appealed to the Kaduna state government and the 23 local government councils to provide funding for HIV kits and youth empowerment programmes in the state.

Mr Aaron Sunday, APYIN  Kaduna Coordinator,  made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on  Friday in Kaduna.

He said the state and local governments should dedicate 0.1 per cent of their  monthly allocation for adolescent and young persons intervention programmes.

” We are appealing due to the dearth of  HIV test kits, Condoms, IEC materials that will need to be sourced.

” We also want to appeal that they assist us with other possible economic support programmes such as provision of skills acquisition avenues for young people.

“For us to be economically self-reliant, we must necessarily diversify our economy as well as encourage the youth to embrace self-employment through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, self-reliance and financial empowerment.

” We will be happy to see our young people involved in hair dressing, fashion designing, tailoring, auto mechanic, electrical, repairs of GSM handsets, wrist watches, air- conditioners and other entrepreneurial small scale businesses.

” It is our expectation that they will prioritise domestic investment on AYP intervention especially for HIV and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights intervention.

” It will be our pleasure to see these local  government chairmen owning the sustainability of health intervention for AYPS within thier LGAs.” (NAN)
