Facilities

By Josephine Obute

Lagos, Jan. 16, 2017 (NAN) An educationist, Mrs Clementina Doregos, says education in Nigeria can improve once the relevant facilities and qualified teachers are provided in schools.

Doregos said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday.

She told NAN that with qualified teachers and adequate facilities in schools, students would have the opportunities to excel at learning.

“The curriculum in schools is okay; it is not as bad as people are saying it is.

“Schools are not well-equipped; if they were the sky would be the beginning for our students.

“You remember in those days, if our students went to school abroad, they would excel.

“Up till this moment, some children who go to study abroad still excel.

“There is nothing wrong with our curriculum, because we are trying in Nigeria.

“I’ve just returned from India, where I visited some schools and I what saw there convinced me that we are not doing badly at all; we are doing well.

“The government only needs to equip public schools for the children.

“Once they equip the schools with facilities and have good teachers, who are re-trained, education would improve as it is improving globally.

“If they equip the schools very well, the sky would be the beginning for these children.’’

Doregos urged the government and other stakeholders to take calculated steps toward improving the standard of education in the country. (NAN)
