Kaduna, Dec. 31, 2022(NAN)  Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, has charged  Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel to continue working along the trajectory of bringing the desired peace and stability to Nigeria.
Lagbaja gave the charge on Friday while speaking as a special guest of honor at the Base Socio-cultural Activities (BASA), held at the NAF Base  in Kaduna.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)reports that BASA  could be traced to pre independence West African Frontier Forces which, due to its diverse cultural inclinations of the West
African soldiers, the colonial authorities introduced the West African Social
Activities.
BASA is organised once yearly to grant the requests by soldiers to participate in their local cultural rituals.
“It had remained the avenue to showcase diverse cultures of the base communities across the country and to appreciate hard work and gallantry of individual soldiers
during the year.
Lagbaja also said that the BASA was organized for personnel that worked within and outside the base with their families to unwind, eat and socialise in an informal setting.
He added that it was a befitting ending to operational and administrative activities of the formation.
While charging the NAF personnel on dedication, resilience and hard work, the GOC commended the Air Officer Commading  (AOC) for organising the occasion.
Also, the AOC ATC, AVM Nnamdi Ananaba, said officers and Air men/women of the Command and the service in general worked hard from beginning  to the end of the year.
Ananabs said BASA was an  avenue to promote civil military relationship with members of host communities.
He said that haven worked through out the year, it was important to organise the event for them to unwind.
Ananaba said the event was deliberately organised to recognise the cultural diversity of the country.
He noted that the event, which showcased the diverse cultures, was a unifying factor for the country.
“Soldiers came from different background, brought together and  trained to work as one defenders of the nation.
“The BASA reminds them that they all come from diverse societies, and enable them to bond more and become more effective in the battlefield,” Ananaba said.
The AOC thanked the families of the soldiers, saying that “being a soldier is not easy, in the sense that they spend most of their time away from their families.
“If we don’t have dedicated family members, dedicated wives and disciplined children who take care of the home front for us, you can imagine how it will be for us in the battlefield.
“We will definitely not be focused, therefore we need to keep encouraging them to keep their good work for us,” he said.
Ananaba said it was an age-long event which was gradually relegated to the background due to intensity of military operations.
“This year our amiable Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, hinging on one of the key drivers of his vision which borders on bolstering morale by improving personnel welfare, felt the need for this epic bonding event to take place across all NAF Units.
“Accordingly, he directed conduct of the BASA for year 2022.
“The event is truly a testament of the CAS interest in further unifying officers, airmen/airwomen and their families and a way of boosting morale and further strengthening the bond that holds us together as one big, united air force family.
NAN reports that high point of the event was cultural dance by the three major tribes in Nigeria, and tug of war between civilians in the base and airmen/women.(www.nannews.ng)

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), report that frontline troops of Operations Bada Mamaki and Whirl  Punch are engaged in fighting banditry in Kaduna, Niger, Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The CAS  was represented by Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command, AVM Nnamdi Ananaba.
Amao said, “We must sustain the tempo of our operations and continue to fight gallantly until all insurgents,  bandits and all other criminal elements are completely eliminated, and peace is restored to all troubled parts of our dear country
“We must continue to operate synergistically with our sister services and other security agencies whilst leveraging each other’s capabilities to secure the nation. This is our professional duty.”
Amao said that the Christmas launch was an opportunity to not only bond with the frontline troops but also promote comradeship within the service.
“It affords us the opportunity to spend time with you, knowing that you should ordinarily be spending this period with your loved ones, but have sacrificed the time to remain in the theatre to ensure that our country remains secure.
“The security threats currently facing our dear nation and the challenges they present to the attainment of our national developmental goals require the emplacement of a robust security architecture, which of course will include the ability to rapidly employ airpower within the full spectrum of warfare.
“The paradigm shift in the way air warfare is waged, necessitates a highly versatile air force capable of executing a wide range of airpower roles across multiple theatres of operation to deal with these security threats,” he said.
The CAS said he was glad that NAF, operating in synergy with sister services and other security agencies, has continued to courageously confront the threats, while recording tangible results in the various theatres.
“I must say that I am proud of the efforts of all our officers, airmen and airwomen participating in internal security operations in different parts of the country.
“My pride comes from the positive reports that are getting to my desk of your courageous exploits and successes,” he told the troops.
Amao said in the North Central theatre particularly, the NAF  through the air component Operation Whirl Punch, has continued to perform very critical roles in providing the much-needed air support for the smooth conduct of ground operations by the Land Component.
According to him, the air support has been immensely instrumental in curtailing activities of terrorists and other enemies of the state, denying them freedom of action and providing respite for Nigerians who have been on the receiving end of the excesses of these criminals.
He commend all personnel of the operation for their commitment and contributions towards ensuring that peace and stability is restored to all parts of the North Central.
” Please do not relent in your dedication and hard work towards ensuring that peace returns to our land.
“I assure you that your efforts and sacrifices in this regard, both individually and collectively, are highly appreciated by the nation.
“Let me also re-assure you that, on our part, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, will continue to ensure the provision of your requirements for the successful execution of the war,” Amao said.
The Air Chief appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari ,for his continued support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, in general, and the NAF in particular, towards the achievement of its desired airpower goals.
In his speech, the guest of honour and General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja commended the leadership of NAF for placing high premium in boosting the morale of those at the frontline.
Lagbaja said the lunch would boost the strength and agility of personnel of the NAF in the optimal performance of their assigned tasks.
“It is imperative to use this occasion to extend sincere appreciation to personnel of the NAF  for assiduously working in synergy with other security and law enforcement agencies in securing the entire areas of operation.
He said the resilience and patriotism of members of the Nigerian Air Force in response to contemporary security challenges is quite commendable.
“The enduring harmonious relationship between the Nigerian Army and the NAF and indeed the Armed Forces of Nigeria have been a force multiplier in our collective drive to return our state to its initial Center of Learning. and the peace it is known for.
“We look forward to a more robust and fruitful engagements between all the security agencies and the leadership of the NAF  here in Kaduna.
“I will like to assure you all of our constant support and partnership towards improving the security disposition in the state,” Lagbaja said.(NAN)(wwww.nannews.ng)

Christmas: CAN calls for deeper reflection on the message of season

Christmas
By Mohammed Tijjani
Kaduna, Dec 24, 2022 (NAN)The Chairman, Christian
Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kaduna State Chapter, Rev. John Hayab, says  a  time like this  calls us to a deeper reflection on the message of the season.
Hayab  stated this in a Christmas message on Saturday in Kaduna.
“My  heart is filled with joy overwhelming in appreciation to God for making it possible for us all to witness yet another season of the commemoration of the nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind.
“The birth of Christ is the ultimate gift ever given in the existence of the world, it is a symbolic gift that aims at exemplifying to us believers,  the importance of giving and the fact that there is  absolutely no limit or boundaries to giving.”
The CAN chairman who is also the Country Drector, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, said  that “until you give to those in need,  Christ’s  love can not be said to dwell in you.”
According to him,  the major theme of Christmas is “Giving” not just giving but selfless giving which is why we will see, Christ was effortlessly  gifted to the womb that conceived him.
“When he came, he was birthed in an inn that was  not paid for, freely did the wise men from the east took the journey to the place of blessed birth, for nothing but to give him gifts, royal, priestly and prophetic gifts.
“Even during his ministry, he fed people from bread and fish gotten freely, and he ended his life as a free gift for the salvation of mankind.
“Indeed it will not be far fetched to say, giving is the reason for the season,” he said.
Hayab said as a leader, during this season,  we must continually teach our people the importance of giving not only within this season but as long as we lived on earth.
He explained that the act of giving was  not only for the old or young, rich or poor, mighty or lowly, no, as long as we remained alive, we have what someone might  need to gain hope again.
“Brethren, we are not blessed by the amount that we give, we are blessed by the quality of our gift, a gift should be given in love with the sole purpose of meeting the needs of
others.
“This is an attitude parents should teach their  children from their childhood as the
scripture says, when we train a child, he will grow and not depart from the right path.
“This is a call to action not words, parents should provide for their children and guide them to picking what have been provided for them to give other people around them that are in need.
“There is absolutely no one that should be left out in this call for kindness, just a
little kindness will heal our land.”
Hayab said:  “My heart was delighted with  a Muslim Woman Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani  who kick-started the distribution of food stuffs to christian widows in our dear state.
“This shows us that there are non christians who understands the true meaning of the season.
“I  will call on our brothers and sisters who the lord has blessed to learn from this kind gesture of Tijjani  and be challenged.”
He said by  this kind gesture,  she had contributed her quota to building a peaceful and loving nation that we both so desired.
“Let me reiterate that  this is the time in this nation that we so desperately need,  this act of giving, this show of love and kindness.
“We should dedicate our lives to giving out to  all for the salvation of human kind,  especially as our nation takes final steps into the election year proper.
“We should fill the environment with mutual love, care and concern for each
other, we should give respect, understanding, love, and tolerance.
“As we celebrate this season, may heavens be kind to us, may God protect us all and may he grant us the grace to be able to live up to our expectations in this season that at the  end,  his name alone will be glorified.
“Merry Christmas  and a prosperous New Year ahead, ” Hayab said (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
