Gov. Ganduje, wife test negative to COVID-19

Kano, April 2, 2020 (NAN)‎ Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and his wife, Hafsat Ganduje have tested negative to Coronavirus.
  
Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday in Kano.‎

‎“We thank Almighty Allah for this result which shows negative. That is how He (Allah) wishes. All those whose results are positive, we will continue praying for their quick recovery from the illness, irrespective of race, nationality, ethnicity, social status, political or religious affiliations‎

“We also pray for Allah’s continued protection against COVID-19 in the state, the country and the world in as a whole.‎

 “While we pray for Divine intervention we must make sure that, we always listen to health professionals and work with professional advice,” the statement added.‎

He urged members of the public to wash their hands under running water with soap or hand sanitisers, keep clean environment and practice social distancing.‎

“Staying at home is safer, healthier and most appropriate. I also urge Nigerians to strictly abide by directives given by the Federal Government as another mechanism in containing the spread of the disease,” the statement explained.‎

The governor reiterated government commitment to sustain proactive measures and collaboration with relevant organisations, agencies and stakeholders to prevent spread of COVID-19.

“It is our responsibility to fight COVID-19 from all angle so as to have safer and healthier society.

“We thank Almighty Allah that up to this time there is no reported case in Kano. May Allah save those from other states in the country and other affected nations of the world,” he prayed.

Ganduje added that state government had adopted effective measures to monitor and enforce compliance with boundary closure, warning that defaulters would be prosecuted.

The governor thanked the state Task Force Committee on COVID-19 and health workers for their unrelenting efforts against Coronavirus.

“Our thanks also goes to the Fund Raising Committee, under the Chairmanship of Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, and Co-chaired by Alhaji Tajuddeedn Dantata and all those who assisted the government.

“Others are Alhaji Aminu Dantata, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Abdussamad Rabi’u, Lee Group of Companies, United Bank for Africa (UBA), among other respectful individuals and organisations,” it added.(NAN)

Boundary Closure : Gov. Ganduje monitors compliance, orders arrest of defaulters

Kano, March 30, 2020 ( NAN ) Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state on Monday visited the boarder linking Kano and Kaduna states to monitor compliance to the total ban on movement of vehicles into the state.
Ganduje, who was accompanied by personnel of Kano Road Traffic Maintenance Agency ( KAROTA ) turned some of the defaulters back and also ordered arrest and prosecution of some of them.
The defaulters caught were in different commercial vehicles at different locations coming into the state.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the inspection, the governor said that he was at the boundary to monitor level of compliance.
“We are here to see how people are complying with the directive we gave for boundary closure. Those that you are seeing are from Madalla in Abuja.
“All of them were not screened to ascertain their health condition and more so, there is directive banning such movement.
“These people you are seeing will all be taken to Police stations and they will be prosecuted for such unpatriotic behaviour,” he said.
Ganduje assured that more security personnel would be deployed to all the affected routes linking the state with other states, not only from Kaduna-Abuja axis.(NAN)

COVID-19: Dangote to establish 600-bed isolation centre in Kano

Kano, March 29,2020(NAN)The ‎President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has pledged to establish a 600-bed isolation centre in Kano State.

Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje announced the philanthropist’s gesture on Sunday at the inauguration of a 37-member fundraising committee set up to provide succour to the vulnerable in the state.

Ganduje said the isolation centre would be established at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar- Mata in Kano metropolis.

The governor noted that the isolation facility to be established at the stadium would complement the already earmarked two isolation centres by the government in the state.

Ganduje said that the committee was formed to raise funds to assist the poor people and the downtrodden in order to cushion the effects of lockdown in the state.‎‎

”There are people who are economically weak and must be affected during this trying time. That is why we decided to form a committee to raise money in order to help them cushion the effects,” he said.

Ganduje also disclosed that the state government had put everything in place, in terms of prevention and cure, to ensure that the disease “do not ravage the state.”

‎The governor also appealed to retired health workers to volunteer to partake in the effort to fight coronavirus pandemic in the state.

‎He urge those interested to register with the state Ministry of Health.‎

Ganduje also ‎declared Monday a statewide fasting day against the outbreak of Coronavirus in the state.

He urged the people of the state to join in the fasting in order to pray against the outbreak of the dreaded disease.

In a remark, the chairman of the committee, Prof Yahuza Bello, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him.

He commended the governor for coming up with the idea to support the needy ‎and also expressed readiness to work diligently towards achieving the objective of the committee.(NAN) ‎

COVID-19 : Gov. Ganduje flags off fumigation of public places

Kano, March 28, 2020 (NAN ) Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has flagged off a special fumigation exercise of the state as part of proactive measures against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking during the monthly sanitation exercise on Saturday at the Government House, Ganduje said that the fumigation would particularly be in worship places, markets, hospitals, motor parks and major roads.

“This is a start-up exercise of sanitizing our environment, because we are fighting this pandemic from all angles,” he said.

The governor commended Lee Group of companies for supporting the government with four trucks of chlorine as part of their corporate social responsibility.

“Lee Group of Companies heeded to our request urging private companies to join hands with us in this fight against the pandemic.

“Lee’s intervention is part of the company’s CSR which we really commend. We are calling on other private hands to also join us in these measures,” he said.

The governor alongside the Commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba and that of Environment, Dr Kabiru Getso witnessed the flag off at government house, state road and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase hospital.

The governor explained that, it was because his government did not want to cripple the economy that the closure of Kano borders did not affect essential needs like food, some raw materials among others.

“We are in this sorry and emergency situation and we will do our best to see that suffering of our people is minimized,” he stated.

He also disclosed that markets would remain opened and encourage people to take issue of social distancing very seriously, but added that it will be better for them to remain indoors.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, said that the state government was committed to providing healthy environment for the people of the state.

According to him, the major reason why government closed schools and directed workers to stay off their offices, is to stop the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

Getso said that the fumigation exercise which started on Thursday, would target major roads and public places including places of worship and motor parks.

He also urged people of the state to maintain good hygiene, wash their hands regularly with soap or sanitizer, use nose mask and maintain social distancing.

Getso said that fumigation against mosquitoes will be done simultaneously with that of Coronavirus to rid the state of mosquitoes. (NAN)

Kano, March 27, 2020(NAN) Kano residents have embarked on panic buying of food items over fear of COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent who monitored markets in Kano metropolis on Friday, reports that the rush was noticed mainly in the major markets.

At Yankaba Market, people were mostly rushing for perishable food items such as tomatoes, onions, pepper and vegetable among others.

The panic buying was also noticed at Abubakar Rimi Market in Sabon-Gari and Singa Market all within Kano metropolis.

Mrs Amina Liman, told NAN that she was shopping for fear of any eventuality or total shutdown.

“I think there is panic in everyone, the way people have rushed out to buy things.

“I am buying basic things for the fear of total shut down because the government ordered the closure of all  routes to the state,” she said.

A customer, Idi Sadik, who groaned over the high prices of food stuff ‎urged the government to do something to cushion the effects of the harsh economic realities occasioned by COVID -19.

Another customer, Ade Suraj, also said that he came to buy essential food items and lamented that traders took advantage of the situation to increase prices.

“I am here to buy basic items because I don’t know what is going to happen after‎ the closure of the state entry routes,” he explained.

Malam Abba Salisu, a perishable items dealer, told NAN that he had made bumper sale because of the rush.

“I have sold many baskets of tomatoes and pepper and I am optimistic that before the end of the day I will be able to sell up to two baskets of tomatoes,” he said.‎

Muhammad Ali, a trader, said he opened his shop at about 10 am attending to many customers who besieged the market for shopping.

Ali said that sales were encouraging adding that he tried to adhere to medical advice on preventive tips against the pandemic.

NAN reports that businesses, banks, markets and other trading centres opened for routine transaction without hitches. (NAN)

Kano Govt. establishes platform to manage grazing reserves, stock routes

Kano, March 27, 2020 (NAN ) Kano State Government says it has adopted proactive measures to accelerate development of grazing areas in the state.

Ameen Yasar, Communication Specialist, Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), made the disclosure in a statement on Thursday in Kano.

Yasar said the Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, stated this during a visit to the Village Head of Dangora, Ardo of Dansoshiya Forest, in Kiru Local Government area of the state.

Muhammad was quoted as saying that the state government also established platform to manage grazing reserves and stock routes in different locations in the state.

“Our biggest investment in this direction is in developing the Dansoshiya Grazing Reserve, the largest in Kano State, which is about 4, 312 hectares.

“The initiative is part of several strategic programmes designed to curb itinerant lifestyle by herdsmen and its accompanying repercussions, ” he said, adding that it would keep the herders and animals around their homesteads as well as help them to grow and store feed for the animals.

The coordinator said the visit was to inform the community leaders in the area on planned deployment of enumeration personnel for conduct of head count of pastoral households, cattle and sundry needs in the Dansoshiya Forest axis.

Muhammad said the personnel would also conduct assessment needs to facilitate project planning to suit their community needs.

He said the KSADP would provide infrastructure and other amenities to make life comfortable for the herdsmen living in the forest and its surrounding.

The coordinator noted that inputs from the beneficiaries would ensure effective implementation and make the project a resounding success.

He urged stakeholders to help in awareness creation on the project and encourage community support  to facilitate successful implementation. (NAN )

COVID-19 :‎ Kano Govt. orders closure of land borders

‎Kano, March 26, 2020 (NAN) Kano State Government has ordered the closure of land borders and routes linking the state to other parts of the country with effect from Friday, March 27, to contain the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.‎

Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to the Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, made the disclosure in a statement on Wednesday in Kano.

Anwar said that movements coming in and out of the state were banned ‎beginning from 12:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2020.‎

‎He said: “This includes all kinds of movements through the borders of the state, even those coming to Kano through Domestic Wing of Malam Aminu Kano International Airport will remain at the airport, without getting access into the city.‎

“This decision is hard but absolutely necessary, as part of precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. 

 “We urge Kano citizens and all other Nigerians to bear with this difficult situation”.‎

According to him, land boarders will be shut while government ensure close monitoring of the situation to keep the people abreast of development.

Anwar said that the police, members of the Kano Road Transport Authority (KAROTA), Hisbah and other security agencies were mobilised to enforce compliance with the border closure.

‎The governor’s aid reiterated government commitment to adopt proactive measures to safeguard public health and protect the people against the virus.

“People must cooperate with health workers to ensure that our state is safe and the country, adhere to social distancing and stay at home as advised by health workers.‎

“People should maintain a high personal hygiene, practice regular hand washing with soap under running water and ensure application of sanitisers,” the statement said.‎

‎The statement further urged people to stay away from going to markets unless for essential needs and cooperate with security agencies. (NAN)

Covid-19: Schools in Kano comply with shutdown directive

Kano, March 24, 2020 (NAN)‎ Schools in some parts of Kano have recorded full compliance with the directive of the state government to shut down in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that most of the schools visited in the metropolis were closed and only few persons were seen around the school premises.

At Kawaji Boys Secondary School, Day Science and Lufaloy Schools, only few teachers were seen discussing.

At Rumfa College, Bennie International School, Intercontinental and Federal Government College Kano, the security guards and few people were around.

NAN reports that there were also few people at Bayero University and Yusuf Maitama Sule University all in the state capital.

The state government had earlier issued a directive that all primary, secondary schools and tertiary institutions should be closed to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state.‎‎(NAN)

Kano, March 23,  2020 (NAN) Kano State ‎Government has suspended all official function and gathering in the state.

‎Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje stated this on Monday in Kano during a live broadcast at the Government House, Kano.‎

The governor also ‎ordered state ministry of tourism to call the attention of owners of all event centres in the state, to suspend all activities till further notice.

‎He also enjoined ‎ religious and traditional leaders to regulate worship centres as part of the proactive measures against the virus.

“Our traditional and religious leaders are part of the major stakeholders in this collective effort. Hence it is very important for them to properly regulate all worship centres. ‎

“We suspend all official events that attract people gatherings, for the time being. This position is hard and necessary for our well being.

‎“‎We have directed ministry of Tourism to liaise with the owners of all event centres across the state, to stop their businesses henceforth,’’ he added.

The governor said that emergency preparedness and response sub-committees were constituted in all the 44 Local Government Areas and 484 wards in the state.‎

He called on transport unions to join the state efforts in making proper arrangement in the motor parks.

‎Ganduje also called on the people of the state to try and avoid gathering of more than 20 for their safety and safety of the society. (NAN)

Group holds youth talent hunt in Kano

Kano, March 23, 2020 (NAN) A group, ‎Arewa Youth Entrepreneurs (AYE), says it has organised  pioneer talent show in Kano to discover and nurture talents  in the state.
 
 
Uba Abdullahi, the organizer of the show, said the season tagged: “Hangout Arewa Talent Show” is designed to showcase different talents and technology breakthrough by trainees under (AYE).
‎
Abdullahi, who is a photojournalist,  said the show also aim to source  and groom talented youths in the arts of photography, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), pastry, manufacturing, perfumery making among others.‎
 
According to him, it is pertinent to source for youths who are passionate about photography, catering, IT, soap making, manufacturing and pastry.
Abdullahi noted that the industry was fast growing, recorded rapid transformation and offered opportunities to accommodate millions of talented youths.
 
He said: “There is need to create a platform to source and groom the youths in their areas of talents and I personally trained  hundred of youths on photography in Kano”.‎
 
 Also speaking, Prof. Ibrahim Yahaya, ‎admonished the youths to believe in themselves, develop their talents and engage in productive activities to enable become self-reliant. ‎
‎
Yahaya, an investment consultant, added that: “I want you to set your mind and believe in yourself, then you will be useful and add value to the society”.
While calling on the government at all levels to support the youths to move the nation forward through effective utilisation of science and technology, Yahaya said the show would play critical role in shaping the mind set of the youths and nurture them to successful entrepreneurs.
 
NAN reports that highlights of the event included exhibition of a fabricated tricycle machine by one Aliyu Haidar, and some IT intelligent devices as well as drone fabricated by Sa’id Muhammad. ‎(NAN)
