COVID-19: Only 10 persons at a time allowed in court during sitting – Bauchi chief judge

Bauchi, March. 23, 2020 (NAN) The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Umar has directed that only 10 persons should be allowed in the courtrooms across the state during sittings.

Umar issued the directive in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.

She said the directive to that effect  was part  of proactive measures put in place by the state government against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“Only parties and their counsels will be allowed into the courtroom subject to a maximum of 10 persons at a time, excluding  judges and officials.

“Witnesses will always be outside the courtroom and can be called in one at a time for giving evidence.

“While in court rooms, persons shall keep a distance of at least one meter from one another as recommended medically,,” she said

According to her, the directives were with effect from Monday, 23rd March ,2020 ,until further notice.

She urged court officials, counsel and other persons to adhere strictly  to the World Health Organisation (WHO)  policy on COVID-19.

Umar reiterated that the measures were taken for public good and to safeguard the health of court personnel and other stakeholders. (NAN)

Desertification: Bauchi Group plants 40,0000 tree seedlings in schools

Warji: (Bauchi) March. 21,2020 (NAN) A Non-Governmental Organization, Bauchi Green Project (BGP) in collaboration with the Bauchi state Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, on Saturday commenced  planting 40,000 tree seedlings in schools across the state.

Malam Mohammed Rabiu, Coordinator of the organization,  who spoke during the inauguration ceremony at Baima village in Warji Local Government Area, said the  exercise  was designed to control desert encroachment in the state.

He reiterated that there were lack of trees in most of the schools, a situation which made life unbearable to school children.

He explained that the exercise was to make children understand the need to live in harmony with nature for sustainable development.

Rabiu called on the students to imbibe the culture of planting trees to control desertification and protect the environment for sustainable development.

In his remark, Alhaji Sani Jibrin, Principal of Baima Government Day Secondary School, Baima, commended the organization for its efforts to check desertification in the state.

He assured that the school would ensure the protection of trees planted.

On his part, the Village Head of Baima,  Alhaji Uzairu Jibrin, pledged to complement their efforts in tree planting to control desertification and protect the environment.(NAN)
