Court remands operator for alleged N91,650 fraud

Ile-Ife (Osun), March 3, 2020 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun, on Wednesday, remanded one Patrick Stephen, 45, for alleged N91,650 fraud.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb 20, around 09:00 am. at Opa area, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the defendant fraudulently collected N91,650.00 from one Sola Eluwoyin, with the pretence to supply him planks within one week, but failed to do so.
He added that the charge stated that the defendant stole the sum of N91,650.00 which belonged to one Sola Eluwoyin, by converting the money to his own use.
According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Monday Gilbert, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal term, pledging that he would not jump bail, but would provide substantial sureties.
The Magistrate, Mrs Habibat Basiru, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.
Basiru added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and the address verified by the prosecutor.
She ordered that the defendant should be remanded in the Correctional Centre, Ile-Ife until the bail was perfected.
The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 20, for reports of settlement. (NAN)

Court remands lotto agents for alleged failure to remit over N139,580

Ile-Ife (Osun), Feb. 28, 2020 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, remanded one Ologuntoye Olalekan, 34, in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Centre over alleged failure to remit N139, 580.00 sales funds.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Feb 11, 2020 around 12:00 noon, at Ilesa Garage, Ile-Ife.
Abdullahi said that the defendants cheated one Bamigbose Michael, a Principal Agent for Golden Chance Lotto, by failing to remit sales funds amounting N139,580, to the owner.
He said that the defendant stole the sum of N139,580.00, property of one Bamigbose Michael, by converting same to his own use.
According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 390(9) and 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Monday Gilbert, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in the most liberal term, promising that his client would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, Mr Joseph Owolawi, did not, however, grant the defendant bail, but remanded him in the Nigerian Correctional Centre.
Owolawi, thereafter, adjourned the case till March 6, for hearing. (NAN)
