Lockdown: Ondo SUBEB commences academic classes on radio

Akure, April 2, 2020 (NAN) The Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commenced academic classes on radio in order to keep pupils in the state busy during the stay-at-home directive by the state government.

This was contained in a statement by Mrs Oladunni Odu,  the Chairman of SUBEB, and made available to  newsmen by Mrs Bisi Lawani,the Public Relations Officer of the board on Thursday in Akure.

“To ensure that Ondo state pupils continue learning while at home in this period of coronavirus pandemic, the SUBEB will today, Thursday 2nd April, 2020,  commence airing of lessons for primary school pupils in the state on Orange 94.5FM.

” This is a strategic effort of Gov. Rotimi  Akeredolu’s administration to keep the pupils busy while at home and to reduce the negative impact of school closure as a result of the spread of the virus and most importantly to keep the pupils abreast of their school curriculum,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the programme is designed to teach English Language and Mathematics at a start while General Paper will be included subsequently.

It urged parents, guardians and caregivers to ensure that their children and wards listened attentively to the educational programme and participate actively in the learning process.(NAN)

Covid 19: Ondo APC suspends party activities

Akure, March 24, 2020 (NAN) The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has suspended all major activities across the state till further notice.

This was contained in a statement by the State Party Chairman, Mr Ade Adetimehin, and made available to newsmen  by Mr Alex Kalejaiye, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, on Tuesday in Akure.

Adetimehin said the decision was in tandem with the directives of the state government to stem the tide of coronavirus.

He stated that the safety and welfare of members, and indeed the general public, was worth much more than political gains.

The chairman  commended the state government for being proactive in taking measures aimed at curtailing the threats of the dreaded virus.

He appealed for understanding and cooperation of the people of the state in the interest of all.

Adetimehin expressed optimism that the virus would soon be nipped in the bud going by the degree of commitment and seriousness being deployed by some states and federal authorities.(NAN)

LG poll: Ondo APC debunks postponement of primaries

Akure, March 2, 2020(NAN) The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has not postponed its  primaries for April 18 local government election in the state.
The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Alex Kalejaiye, said this in a statement on Monday in Akure.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that APC on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6, held its councillorship and chairmanship primaries respectively, in all the 203 wards of the 18 local government areas of  the state.
“The attention of the Ondo state  APC  has been drawn to a story, to the effect that the party has postponed its primaries for local government election indefinitely.
“The party wishes to state that the story is untrue, embarrassing, and never emanated from the state secretariat.
“The chapter can affirm that the party had credible and rancor-free primaries across the 18 local government areas of the state early last month, and has since submitted the names of its candidates to the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) as required by the Electoral Law.
“We are therefore, miffed that anyone, for whatever reason, will go to press with such  unfounded claim, and urged all stakeholders and party members to disregard the misapprehension and misleading story,” he said.
He  added that the party was fully ready to participate in the local council poll as scheduled by the ODIEC.
According to him,  APC will not  give serious attention to futile distortions  aimed at creating disaffection within its fold, and promote disenchantment in the process. (NAN)
