Abuja, June 12, 2018 (NAN) National U-15 Coach Nasidi Alala, on Tuesday expressed optimism that Nigeria was ready to defend the trophy won at the last edition of the African Youth Games (AYG) in Botswana.
Alala told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the boys were very discipline and obedience to camp instructions.
According to him, I have 25 boys in camp out of which 18 will be selected for the games according to the rules.
“The camp is smooth and interesting; the boys are very discipline because they understand that anyone who is not working by the rules will be shown the way out, ’’ he said.
Alala said the team won all the three friendly matches played to fine tune its preparations for the games, adding that playing matches was one of the ways to understudy the team.
“We come back after each match to look at our deficiencies and make necessary corrections.
“Training is a mirror to competitions, so each friendly match that we play, is to move the team a step ahead in preparation for the games,’’ he said.
Alala said with the level of preparations, the team was set to defend the title.
“Each player must understand the three ‘R’ that makes a player.
“The three R include Receiving, Retaining and Returning and each player that must make the final team must have the three R inherent in him,’’ he said.
He called on the Federal Government to ensure continuity in the team, adding that the action was the only way to sustain the potentials in the boys.
“Government should look inwards to organise competitions for the boys to keep them rather than disband the team,’’ he said.
NAN reports that the Ministry of Youth and Sports had on May 28, opened camping ahead of the 2018 AYG slated to hold in Algiers, between July 17 and July 27.(NAN)
