Surveyor-General wants synergy with Military to secure Nigerians

Abuja, March 19, 2020(NAN) The Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr Taiwo Adeniran, has emphasised the need for synergy between his office and the Military toward securing Nigeria and Nigerians.

A statement signed by Abu Michael, Head of Press and Public Relations of the office, indicated that Adeniran spoke at the Customised Training in Application of Geo-spatial Information Science and Technology in Military Intelligence and Surveillance.

The training was organised for officers of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), in Abuja.

Adeniran commended the Military and other security personnel, who offered their lives in the prosecution of wars against the Boko Haram insurgency and other acts of terrorism in parts of the country.

He urged them to consistently liaise with the Department of Intelligence Surveys of his office for timely provision of near real-time geo-spatial data for the success of their operations.

He also commended the military for appreciating the necessity of geo-spatial science in its operations as demonstrated by the training it requested from the African Regional Institute for Geo-spatial Information Science and Technology (AFRIGIST), for its officers.

He said that the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation and AFRIGIST were critical stakeholders of geo-spatial science, with his office as the First Representative of Nigeria in AFRIGIST’s Governing Council.

He expressed readiness to continue to advocate the use of geo-spatial information in addressing challenges of all aspects of the Nigerian Economy, especially since United Nations had acknowledged the fact that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), would not be achieved without geo-spatial integration.

In his remarks, the AFRIGIST Executive Director, Dr Adewale Akingbade, disclosed that the training was the third of its kind following the successful ones carried out for the Nigerian Air Force in 2019, and recently for the Defence Space Administration.

He commended the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), for approving the training for his officers, and particularly thanked the military’s high regard for the place of geo-spatial science in its operations, hence the approval for the training.

Akingbade thanked the Surveyor-General for his support for the training, pointing out that such synergy would benefit the country. (NAN)
