Bauchi Healthcare agency trains nursing mothers on preparation of Kwash pap, ORT

Bauchi, March 4,2020 (NAN) The Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHCDA), says it would commence training of pregnant women on preparation of Kwash pap as part Antenatal Clinic (ANC) as a malnutrition measure across the State.

The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, who stated this while briefing newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday, explained that the measure was part of efforts at addressing malnutrition among children .

He said other practical trainings would also include preparation of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) as well as how mothers could adhere to good health practices.

He said the Nigeria Nutritional Health Survey  of 2018 indicated that  no fewer than 700,000 children were discovered to be suffering from malnutrition in the state.

“The last supply of the Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) was received in August 2019.

“The type of Malnutrition seen in Bauchi is stunting, so each child is expected to be provided with one carton of the RUTF for a complete treatment.

“For sustainability, the agency will revive its Nutrition and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) corner to train women attending ANC in all primary healthcare centers in the state,using local food.

“Malnutrition starts from pregnancy and can cause abortion, so pregnant mothers need to eat healthy food to give birth to healthy babies,” he said.

According to him, training on preparation of ORS is aimed at preventing diarrhea caused by noncompliance to exclusive breastfeeding formula.(NAN)
