Boko Haram: Michika Council staff resume work after 4 years, excited by new council secretariat

Michika (Adamawa), May 31, 2018 (NAN) Many excited staff of Michika Local Government Council in Adamawa on Thursday trooped to work in the council’s newly completed secretariat complex for the first time in four years after insurgents razed down the former secretariat.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the newly built secretariat complex project, which cost N387 million, was funded by Victim Support Fund (VSF).
“We are happy to be back to work in an office that is far better than our former office destroyed by Boko Haram. We are grateful to God and VSF for this laudable progress,” the branch chairman of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE), Comrade Luka Danbaba, said.
Danbaba explained that some of his members used to come to work under tree shades following the destruction of the secretariat, but now that a brand new office is in place, the workers morale was high as they trooped in.
“As I speak to you now, the council chairman has even given me some rice to share to my members because of the Ramadan Fast, he said.”
He however, complained of lack of office furniture for most workers, adding that some workers were using mats.
“I want to appeal to Adamawa Government to intervene by furnishing our beautiful secretariat,” Danbaba said.
Also speaking, Abdurahman Mutawwale, a council staff and former National Publicity Secretary of NULGE, lauded the intervention by VSF in building the secretariat, which he described as the best council secretariat in the entire state.
“The workers and people of Michika remain grateful to this administration for it various interventions in this area,” Mutawwale said.
Mr Vandi Favanza, the council chairman, also expressed happiness with the full resumption of work in the new secretariat and urged workers to maintain the facility and renew their commitment to work.
“Yesterday during the commissioning of the secretariat, I directed workers to resumed work fully today and so far, I am satisfied with the turn out, he said.”
Favanza, who was siting on a ‘plastic’ chair in his office, also urged the state government to intervene in furnishing the secretariat.
“Our governor is a listening man and I am sure his administration with intervene in addressing the furniture problem,” Favanza said. (NAN)
