Bricklayer in court over alleged attempted car theft

Abuja, May 9, 2018 (NAN) The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 28-year-old bricklayer, Olu Micheal, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court over alleged attempted car theft.
Michael, who resides at Wamba Village Apo, Abuja, is being tried on one count charge of attempted theft.
The Prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, told the court that one Iyere Frank of Assemblies of God Church, Jabi, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station Abuja, on April 21.
Ukagha said that the complainant had parked his Toyota Corolla car at the church premises on  the said date at about 2:pm., and “was later informed by the church security guards that the defendant had allegedly tried to open the car with a master key.”
Ukagha said the security guards arrested and handed him over the accused to the police.
He told the court that the police investigating officer found on the defendant the master key which he admitted he had been using to open cars to steal car batteries.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 95 of the Penal Code.
The defendant however denied committing the offence.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety in like sum.
Sadiq said the surety must produce a utility bill with his name inscribed on it and adjourned the case till June 27, for hearing.(NAN)
