Cleric urges Christians to ponder on purpose of Jesus birth amist Christmas celebration

Lagos, Dec. 25, 2019 (NAN) Revd. Canon Michael Olorundare of St Luke’s Anglican Church, Amje, Alagbado, has urged Christians to use the occasion of Christmas to ponder on the purpose of birth of Jesus Christ.

Olorundare gave the advice during a sermon tagged ‘Purpose of Jesus Birth’ during the Christmas Holy Communion Service held on Wednesday in the church.

The cleric referred to Isiah chapter 9 verse 2 and 6 which said the birth of Jesus Christ was  to deliver mankind from the power of darkness into his marvelous light.

“Thank God for the gift of life to witness another Christmas in the land of living, but we must not be carried away by the celebration, rather the reason for the season.

“It is most important to note that Jesus Christ was born to destroy anything that represents darkness in our lives and to illumenate us and reconcile us back to God.

“We must treasure Jesus birth, carry it, allow it to live in us because it is beyond eating/drinking, visits, wearing new cloths, travelling and merry making ,but allow the light of God rein in our lives,” Olorundare said.

He said that Jesus was the saviour of the world and prayed that the purpose of his birth would reflect meaningfully in our daily life, adding that we must give him a chance.

“We must give him a place to rein in our lives, situations, circumstances, marriage, family, state and nation at large because a life or situation without Jesus Christ is crisis.”

He said that Jesus Christ came to give us life,  adding that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, quoting John 10, verse 10 and John chapter 14 verse 6.

NAN reports that Christmas which means ‘Feast day of Christ’ is to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The day is annually observed and celebrated on Dec. 25 by Christians all over the world. (NAN)
