COE Gindiri secures accreditation for 26 programmes from NCCE

Mangu (Plateau), March 13, 2020 (NAN) The College of Education (COE), Gindiri, in Plateau has secured accreditation for 26 of its programmes from National Commission for Colleges and Education (NCCE).
Prof. Cletus Gotan, Acting Provost of the institution stated this on Friday at the convocation of six sets of the college graduates in Gindiri in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Gotan said that the college had also secured accreditation for six new programmes.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the convocation was for graduates of 2012/2013 to 2017/2018 academic sessions of the college.
Gotan said that the 26 programmes were accredited in 2019, while the six new programmes had taken off with their first batch of students.
“On Dec. 18, 2019, a team of assessors from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, visited the college to inspect and assess our human and material resources for the take off of nine academic Degree programmes in the college.
“`We are very hopeful of a positive response any time from now,’’ he said.
He thanked Gov. Simon Lalong for approving recruitment of 50 lecturers in 2017 as well all categories of staff in 2018.
He said that the gesture had helped to improve the educational sector in the state.
“The college is steadily rising and witnessing expansion from hundreds of students to thousands, from a handful of teachers to 210, from 24 programmes/departments to 30, from a non-degree programme to by the grace of God, a degree awarding institution,’’ he said.
The provost said that the college had reconstituted its ventures management committee to increase Internally Revenue Generation (IGR).
In his remarks, Lalong said that the college was critical in the state’s quest to improve quality of education.
He expressed optimism that the new graduates would help address the problem of quackery in teaching profession in the state.
He said his administration had provided training opportunities for teachers at all levels and granted study leave to enable them go for further studies in various institutions.
The governor restated his administration commitment towards completing abandoned projects in the college to improve its infrastructure.
This, he said was necessary to create enabling environment for learning.
“Your capacity to pursue ground breaking research and other needful community services will earn you grants from industries, donor agencies and other international organisations,’’ he said.
He promised to facilitate the establishment of a police post at the college and warned land grabbers to steer clear of the college premises.
Lalong vowed that illegal structures in and around the college would be demolished irrespective of status of the owners.
He urged the students to shun cultism, drug abuse, examination malpractice, by being good ambassadors of the college. (NAN)
